Jays first song as a lead artists on the pop charts was E.S.O.M. and it wasn't an Alicia Keys remake. She re-made Jay-z's song. But yes it was another artist on the hook at first.

Truth

Dude has been running around in a few threads posting that false statement so much to where I think he even believes it now.

There has been so much fukkery like that spread in this thread that's insane like one cat saying Drake is talented, and Hov isn't anymore and that he can only make hits with Kayne :comeon:Then there was the one who said Eminem could have 100 #1 albums if he dropped one every month :mjpls:

Props to Drake though.

Props to Drake...but I suspect in 5 years time Hov will still be putting out No1 albums while he is Ja Rule/50 cent status..... no rapper that spends as much time as he does singing to bytches on records last long.....

Every time

every single time I see a thread like this where Drake is quickly surpassing your favorite rappers in some catagory I see this statement.

Yall done said this every year he been out.

Give it up :old: nikkas

Empire State of Mind was written by 2 other ladies not Alicia Keys

Empire State of Mind - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Empire State of Mind" was originally written by Brooklyn natives Angela Hunte and Jane't "Jnay" Sewell-Ulepic who were feeling homesick while on an overseas trip in February 2009. The following month they sent the song in for consideration at Roc Nation, although it received negative reviews. Initially discouraged, the duo sent the song to Jay-Z after a suggestion by an associate of EMI Music Publishing (EMI), and after an incident which they described as an omen.

After hearing the song, Jay-Z immediately recorded it, changing all of the verses but keeping the hook. The single was supposed to feature Hunte on the song's hook, but when Hunte and Sewell-Ulepic were asked if they thought someone else would be more appropriate for the chorus, Hunte suggested Keys

Certainly.

Then you're a fool or maybe you're trolling? This Jew ain't nowhere near Jays flow, lyrics, swag or accomplisments.

To say he passing to torch when all Drake did was getting a couple of No. 1s on the chart when he isn't even a the lead artist is ridiculous.

smh

Naw. Jay did that in an era where MOP, Redman and Pharaoh Monch were making hit singles and picking up gold plaques. The late 90s - early 2000s was by far the easiest time ever to be a rap or a pop star...

That was a pretty easy time to get plaques. Even being the weed carrier on a rap crew could get you a Gold Record back then.

A #1 record is difficult to achieve in any Billboard chart in any genre, any era. Think about the amount of songs that are released commercially and how frequently. Labels can only push a song so much, but even songs with the biggest push don't necessarily make it to #1. On the flip side, an artist can come out of nowhere with a song that reaches #1. Drake being a Pop rapper, pop artist or whatever is irrelevant since it is the R&B/Hip Hop charts that he holds the record for.
