Yes, Drake is pop and that's not an insult, Drake has purposely went in that direction and is subsequently one of the biggest Pop acts on the planet.

Drake told us he a pop star on that Khaled album and we been calling him that since like 2015 or sumn. That don't mean he ain't been dominating the hip hop charts with hip hop records.

I think some of these old nikkas just be mad Kuz they couldn't put out a crossover record to save their life.

Drake is definitely hip hop. Does he make pop records? Sure. So did MC Hammer and this site sucks him off on some revisionist history shyt. I’m a Mos Def fan got but got damn he is mad pretentious

This too.

It's like this.

Drake serves a purpose. So Far Gone raised the bar of where hip hop was going. To this very day, rappers are harmonizing, instead of rappity rapping. He allowed the genre to branch out of the box.

Yes the branch ended up in suburban homes, but so did NWA and em.

Bottom line, yes Drake is a goofy but he serves a purpose. Dude been in the game for almost two decades, while most of the mixtape blog rappers either phased out or went crazy.

Mos is the same goofy that starred in shyt movies and had that god awful rock album, when most hip hop heads wanted another hip hop album.

Don't get me started with the Gitmo stunt he did where dude was bytching and snotting all over the place because he wanted to demonstrate to be tube fed.

Rappers were harmonizing well before so far gone. Are you 18?

That’s a lazy criticism to call Drake “pop”. I remember when the Jordan Brand centered their whole commercial marketing campaign around Mos’ “Umi Says”. Ms. fat booty could definitely bump in a Target store.

Folks just feel some type of way over Drake’s success. Bro got pop sensibilities, but he can also hop on a preemo track and tear it up.

Drake as a person? That’s a different discussion.

Tbh Mos Def opened the door for someone like Drake with all of the singing shyt and Lauryn before that. And you can tell from his early music it was shyt like that that influenced him the most. I’m not gonna act like Ima Drake fan even tho I have liked some of his music but you can tell the hate for Drake is not becuz of the music

has he always talked like that? he sound like he's LGBTQ on Percocet. the mannerisms 2 :picard:

I have a lot of mighty mos tribute threads n the booth but this guy had to leave the continent to avoid honoring his debts.

Make a diss record or shut the fuk up.

Between this and that lil cease twirling naked in a room full of men thread(that I refuse to enter) Brooklyn has been going out sad.

Pop smoke was really the last of the shake in the bottom of the bag for yall. RIP

I've come to the realization that Drake is basically more-than-one-hit-wonder Vanilla Ice.

  • Viewed as trash by rap's avant garde
  • Subsequently lashes out at those in the avant garde
  • Can actually rap, but has a questionable writing past/past in general
  • Exponentially commidifies and commercializes the sound of the moment
  • EDIT, and he's more probably more white than black.
