Drake isn’t someone who needs defending but he makes better Music than Mos Def and its not even close

He could bite Def’s whole M.O. if he wanted
:dead:
This is blasphemous.

Drake isn't even a real MC, yall don't remember his attempts of freestyling on radio. He don't even write his shyt.

Mos Def verse on Thieves in the Night >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Drake's entire catalog

This is such a disingenuous take.

Does Drake make pop songs? Yes. But for every Hotline Bling and In My Feelings he has plenty of traditional rap songs. It’s 2024 not 1993. If that’s the case any rapper post 2008 is a pop artist. Rap is popular music now so expecting artist to move the same way they did 30 years ago is ridiculous. You either adapt or find yourself coming across as an out of touch hater.

I took it to mean Drake chases trends or writes from an “inspired by“ perspective and his music covers every type a Pop Music fan is looking for, hence the Target reference. Target didn't create all the products, but they have them all in one location. Drake didn’t create a style, but he offers them all to you. Who is Drake the artist at his core and what message is he sending as an artist? Every great artist works with themes. Not just musicians, but ARTISTS. What’s Drake’s theme?

I disagree because Drake doesn’t take chances and it’s easy to walk in a lane that’s already carved.

Dude

To say Drake doesn’t take chances is just fundamentally not true, not all of it is to write home about obviously, but nobody has done more to heighten black artisty outside the states like he has.

Drake being more POPular is only seen as a W when we have to compare him to other others artists and we want to prove he is better than said artists. Otherwise being call “pop” won’t be accepted by Drake fans. But when we want to compare him to Jcole and Kendrick it’s “he sells more, charts more, blah blah blah blah” 😑
