I took it to mean Drake chases trends or writes from an “inspired by“ perspective and his music covers every type a Pop Music fan is looking for, hence the Target reference. Target didn't create all the products, but they have them all in one location. Drake didn’t create a style, but he offers them all to you. Who is Drake the artist at his core and what message is he sending as an artist? Every great artist works with themes. Not just musicians, but ARTISTS. What’s Drake’s theme?

I disagree because Drake doesn’t take chances and it’s easy to walk in a lane that’s already carved.

he’s a lounge singer at heart …
A Lounge rapper …
Like a hip hop Barry Manilo or hip hop Lou Rawls ..

It's hate. Majority of Drake music is not Target music and Mos Def knows that. He just want to get his hate off. Also, Drake make better music than Mos Def and it's not even close.

This too.

It's like this.

Drake serves a purpose. So Far Gone raised the bar of where hip hop was going. To this very day, rappers are harmonizing, instead of rappity rapping. He allowed the genre to branch out of the box.

Yes the branch ended up in suburban homes, but so did NWA and em.

Bottom line, yes Drake is a goofy but he serves a purpose. Dude been in the game for almost two decades, while most of the mixtape blog rappers either phased out or went crazy.

Mos is the same goofy that starred in shyt movies and had that god awful rock album, when most hip hop heads wanted another hip hop album.

Don't get me started with the Gitmo stunt he did where dude was bytching and snotting all over the place because he wanted to demonstrate to be tube fed.
Ppl who say this

Why did yall ever like rap in the first place?

That’s a lazy criticism to call Drake “pop”. I remember when the Jordan Brand centered their whole commercial marketing campaign around Mos’ “Umi Says”. Ms. fat booty could definitely bump in a Target store.

Folks just feel some type of way over Drake’s success. Bro got pop sensibilities, but he can also hop on a preemo track and tear it up.

Drake as a person? That’s a different discussion.

We had article after article published in the first half of last year about how there hadn't been a single hip-hop song or album to go #1 on the Billboard charts.

The only hip-hop artists to have a #1 single were Doja Cat, Drake and Jack Harlow.

The only hip-hop artists to have a #1 album were Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Drake, Nicki Minaj and Rod Wave.

Drake is the only hip-hop artist to have both a #1 single and #1 album in 2023.

Drake saving the genre. Argue with the wall.

And I say this as somebody who hasn't liked a single Drake solo project since If You're Reading This It's Too Late.
