He's a competent rapper

Nothing more, nothing less. Like any average rapper I will really like 3-4 songs from his projects and the rest.

If you don't like him he's easily avoided, even more so for nikkas like OP. You will never see me advocate listening to his music but I downloaded his new tape consciously...I wasn't forced, I wasn't "studying" a rapper I hate for the fukk of it...



I was interested and got what I came for, 3-4 good songs and typical Drake shyt that I don't fukk with in general. I can't see myself putting in this kind of effort to be displeased about something.

Drake was a Whopper in a mainstream hip hop pool of crappy hamburger helper. Yeah a whopper ain't nothing special, but compared to hamburger helper.....

Drake came to prominence before far more talented emcees like Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, Wale, Big KRIT, Ab-Soul, Chance, and Logic entered the game. We were also two years removed from The Cool's release and Lupe was smack dab in the middle of a label war that would basically last for the next five years and hinder the quality and quantity of his work. The game had no prominent talent from a skill stand point, and then here comes Drake with decent C+ level rhymes, amazing production from 40, a mixed marketable image, an established fanbase from his acting days and the ability to "sing". He was a breath of fresh air but let's not kid ourselves - he was never anything more than a pretty decent rapper with dope hooks and amazing beats and a Lil Wayne co-sign. That's all he'll ever be, too.

The landscape has changed a lot since he debuted...for the better. nikkas could claim ignorance back then but there ain't no excuse to eat Whoppers no more brehs. Yeah I'll check for the Views From The 6 joint and keep 3 or 4 songs before tossing the rest in the bin, but that's about it. We got fancy grade A steak now. We got emcees that are hungry with something of substance to say.

I'm with the consensus of this thread. I can't really fukk with Drake's music. He is a decent rapper at best with a gifted mind that knows how to select beats. Beside that, dude music is dull , flow is monotonous, and music content is too repetitive. His music is a hit and miss..
