But even if it's 3k it's still platinum off of one song.

If you want to be clear, I'm in between both generations, mostly the new, and I think this new era has it right. If I remember right, the old school artist WERE going platinum off of one song then (Chingy, Lil Flip). The only difference was that one song came with a video and played on MTV/BET.
If I recall right Chingy had 3 big singles on his first album, google gives me #2, #2 and #3 on HOT100. The album after that went platinum too, with no big singles of the strength of the previous album, so no that was a bad example. And Lil Flip went platinum without a single on the HOT100, the second (major label) album, which also went platinum had 2 top 5 singles but that's irrelevant since the first went platinum without singles. So that's another bad example.

Anyways, if it's 3k, that's a better representation. These are proxies, a proxy is a representation with some margin of error. Just cause the margin of error exists doesn't mean that they shouldn't try to minimize it.

that was before the ghostwriting allegations came out. his credibility is now in question.

So first of all let's throw questioning his music out of the window because we've established legends and people in the culture respect his music.

Now for the ghost writing. His demand in hip hop hasn't dried up at all despite obviously maybe not being seen as a top tier MC (Kendrick level). One example of props he's got recently is Jada n Styles on drink champs podcast. Styles said Drake is one of his favourites this generation and Jada (I think) said he agrees but the ghost writing slightly affects his standing.. Which is fair

But let's not act like Drake is only listened to by people who don't fukk with hip hop and white girls. That's a lie.

With one writer a minute he's going to need all the stream he can get.

That was confirmed to not be true. Ppl were counted multiple times. And the writers were actually just credits. + they counted the samples and those who made them.

Some of yall really live to put on that cape and defend a man you know doesnt kno you exist. That shyt is what concerns me bout this generation the most. And vice versa.

Because of what hip hop is TODAY, gotta give son props...more about his finessing than his "talents" but either way the combo of both made ppl look over and ignore alot of fukkery that would usually be detrimental
To any other hip hop artists (ghostwriting, getting pissed on, ppl likng the fact he has a corporation behind him).

When compared to what and who I use to look at that made the genre special, he clearly wouldnt last. In this era though...he's that nikka (again take it how u want)

At this point its all perspective *joe budden vc*

Tell that to the multiple legendary rappers who have named Drake in their top rappers of this generation

Thats obviously a move to try & get some of his fanbase/Sales
Or you really think those guys feature/co-Sign. Drake because they think hes the greatest rapper of his Generation or some bs :mjlol:
They look for a bigger crowd/that extra Mainstream Push

A 20 song album from Gang starr has 250 + 20 writers if we go by this cause he has 5 samples on every song, with 5 writers.
That's without background vocals and other things.

81 writers - 20 from Drake - 32 producers - 7 features - 13 samples = 9

That's without counting background features and assuming that the samples had 1 writer.

What I wonder is if people just skim through shyt they read or if they take a second to think.

You hear nothing but Drake on Social and especially snapchat

Drake has never had a well received project among Hiphop heads

How can general consensus be that it sucks and the numbers show its getting played more than any album we've seen in a long time

Aren't about 15 of the songs on the charts?
How is it played more than any album in recent times? We just recently began counting streaming numbers. He's the first pop star to have streams counted like this in this new era. The first big one. Beyonce still only streams on TIDAL. Besides that, his album has three huge hits. It's like saying we thought Nelly was super dope because we bumped Hot In Here. A couple hot songs can carry you. Stop playing dumb. Why focus on these "hip hop heads" when even mainstream publications think it's mediocre? And Take Care was well received. Drake is officially at the point where his fan base is starting to skew heavily female.

Not surprising, currently he is one of the five most popular artist in music right now.

Drake is not the only popular artist ever and there is a possibility that 50 Cent or Eminem could have just as easily hit these numbers if people streamed their records instead of buying them. Of course the technology wasn't around for it.

Eminem sold 10-12 million on MMLP just in the US right? If you reverse engineer how they get to their counts for soundscan, Eminem would have more streams than Drake.....with out including any other countries. These Apple Music numbers included countries all around the world....

And really, these are basically Apple Music press releases. They all read like some crazy feat and 'its never been done before' but it's basically because the cell phone technology and infrastructure wasn't strong enough to handle it before. Others have sold more records when people had to still get up off their ass to go buy them.
