Much too fresh to tell where it ranks for me. First half of the album felt very samey. N 2 deep is a vibe :wow:. I don’t know what Kanye did but the constant subs are just annoying to hear at this point. Bars were good throughout the album

Y'all nikkaz In here are Crazy, Drake and Kanye what they doing with their numbers is transcending hip hop, they are reaching different people, Music Listener's from different genres. This is what hip hop was fighting for in the 80's and 90's.

Some of y'all kids don't know shyt about hip hop, the history and the fight hip hop did to see this day

Just shut the fukk up

The Off-Season was a dope album and this is the level of quality Cole should be aiming for. Even people who weren't impressed by Cole before liked it.

DAMN isn't Kendrick's best album, but it's not garbage. There's too much quality in it to say that, and that just speaks to the standard that Kendrick has set for himself with his projects.

And all of that's cool, but Drake shouldn't be put in any top five or GOAT lists. He doesn't want to challenge himself or prove that he's the best anymore. I don't have a problem with that. Just take him out of that category of legendary rappers. If you want to be the best, your albums have to hit, and there are two other people who put more effort into their work than Drake does.

So nobody listens to albums like that anymore, but people are revisiting Drake albums? Which is it? I don't know why you guys go around acting like albums don't matter when you don't want them to. Drake doesn't have to make albums anymore. He can do singles for the rest of his career like Jennifer Lopez and eat off those. You release an album, that's another body of work to add to your discography. It counts. If you don't want it to count, don't make an album.

And you said it yourself, the huge singles and certain B-sides are keeping those albums on the charts. As an entire body of work, how do those albums hold up? From start to finish, which Drake albums have the quality in 2021? I'll give you Take Care, what are the other ones? Come on, tell me.

EDIT: Just checked the Billboard 200 and Kendrick and Cole both have spots there for GKMC and 2014 FHD, respectively. I guess Drake isn't the only one having his albums revisited off the strength of singles and B-sides.......in reality. :mjlit:
Excellent post. Drake's hits are so huge that the albums get carried by them. His singles typically are can't miss records that can be played for years. Nobody can take that away from him.

I never just go and play his albums straight through tho, I can do that with other releases from other artists easily.

Another safe stick to the formula effort from Drake.

His 2020 run was :wow: tho...

This album sounds like he didn't want to go all in with the R&B like he initially said he was going to do for this. Didn't want to take too much risk, that's what I'm feeling as I play this.
What formula? Drake has made every kind of song

and yes Cole has had the same formula since 2014

The Jackie is more fun than anything Cole has done since born sinner

No dog in this race, but I assume his point is there are millions of songs that Drake could’ve sampled, but he chose to sample music from a guy who is a defendant in a high profile disturbing case.
this stance is stupid because you cant take this stance unless you keep a universal outlook or you are going to look like a hypocrite.

so many people that are sampled are drug abusers domestic abusers manipulators and pedophiles and sexual predators that havent been exposed its very stupid. if you’re gonna take this stance we have to delete almost everything in music history

Not really his b-side and deep cut catalog is prolific so he just can’t be a singles artist.

People don’t listen to whole albums anymore past week of release. They filter songs they like and move on. That’s why playlists and Pandora are so big right now.

Drake is not a bad album maker not most of his shyt was received to solid critical reception and resonates heavy with the public you only hear this shyt on here.

Since the money will go toward paying off his victim(s), shouldn't this be celebrated? Just playing devil's advocate.

The Off-Season was ok…if we being honest as a thematic work KOD was better and should be held in higher regard. The Off-Season felt like a return to Cole’s mixtape work as far as spitting. Still Cole isn’t making his best music in 2021 and that album kinda came and went if being real.

DAMN isn’t Kendrick’s best work it’s a pop album with some of the worst lyrics he’s ever spat he’s a white liberal favorite and critical darling.

Drake is a legendary rapper though he defined his era for better or worse if you want to put him in the “artist” category whatever point is dude is a legend.

Yeah, people don’t listen to albums like that…people listen to the songs they like. It’s not that albums don’t matter they matter when they come out but over time people just sort out their favorite songs. It’s why streaming playlists and shyt like Pandora is so popular. A lot of people don’t like listening to just one artist when they’re listening to music they like a variety.

Why would Drake just make singles when his deep cuts and b-sides are loved by fans? All of Drake’s albums hold up quality wise he’s never made a terrible album. All his albums have high production value and at least a handful of songs that go. U saying NWTS is trash top to bottom in 2021? The critique of Drake needing to switch it up is valid but at the same time dude is 35. The game has changed…a lot of his peers are running on fumes to keep they careers going. Personally I’m pretty much over all them nikkas including Drake, Kendrick, and Cole because you know what you’re going to get.

Drake's formula for albums is always the same. He goes in with the same mindset which is to check off boxes for each demographic that is a fan of his.

You're right that Drake can make any type of record. IMO it would be dope if he didn't feel like he had to do that on every album tho. It's the gift and curse of his popularity and versatility.
