Read somewhere that DBS anime will retell BoG and RoF stories as the movies were too condensed. Would make sense to do so but having Beerus wake up four years before the events of BoG basically retcons the movie.

tired of people discussing, movie only existed to gauge the interest in Dragon Ball and Toriyama let the movie flow it way just in case people were to become interested. If BoG flopped (and Xenoverse) I doubt this series would be happening tbh

You can watch the first ep without seeing either movie.
The movies were supposedly cannon but there's some stuff in the show that contradicts that.

In Battle of Gods, Beerus woke up for the first time after thousands of years of sleep and immediately started searching for the Super Saiyan God, which is how he met up with Goku, who was training on King Kai's planet..
In the first ep of the show, Beerus is already awake and is running around destroying planets before he met up with Goku.
Unless the show takes place in an AU (which is possible) it doesn't add up with the movie.

I have not seen BOG but I imagine it was a just a test run for the series.
