Man some of us must be watching a different anime. MUI Goku did give Jiren that work. Had that nikka trying to cheat and everything. Jiren was kneeling at Goku's feet until his body gave out.

Body gave out because Goku was putting in work the entire tournament while them Universe 11 bozos was just standing around with their arms folded watching everyone else fight. Zeno should have erased them nikkas on the spot for insubordination

After taking a constant stream of Ls and having his own Spirit Bomb dropped on him to unlock an ability in the ass pull of ass pulls, he finally started to fight on par with Jiren.
Then he literally admitted that even with UI he was being overpowered. Luckily the plot has Jiren act out of character and give Goku a rage zenkai, which Tori & Toyo have been using for years to have Saiyans exceed their actual power level and it's never seen again. See Trunks Rage form against Zamasu, doesn't make sense & never seen again but it serves the plot.
Even after all this, just trying to get on a serious Jiren's level tore his body apart and it completely gives out. During all this time he couldn't even knock Jiren out of the ring or knock him out period, much less kill him even if he wanted to. Jiren has never been equaled so this man is having a life altering moment of humility. Notice his body isn't broken like Goku, mans isn't even breathing too hard.
The defeat of Jiren sees Goku having to team up with Frieza just to get him off the stage so 17 can play Keep Away to get the W. Yeah, real clear victory for Goku. Having to team up with Frieza and fight Jiren in a handicap match to get the job done.
Clearly Goku solos.

Goku was beating Jiren but he couldn't last the fight. He needed freiza to help...He cannot beat Jiren solo.
If you THINK he can now that's in your head...you have no examples to show this.
You coming off real remedial right now. He couldn't get the job done when he had the chance, even with the rage zenkai but somehow, in your head, he could have. Even though his entire Universe was on the line, he just decided not to. Right fam.
Jiren meanwhile ran the fade with Goku AND Frieza after Goku broke himself trying to keep up. Matter of fact, Jiren outlasted Mastered UI and would have eliminated Goku if Vegeta hadn't jumped in and saved him from falling off.
