Yes the God of the Destruction battle did not happen in the anime at the Zen exhibition.It looks like the Gods will be fighting at the Zen exhibition(presuming if the manga refers it as it) the power scaling and the asspull power-ups has literally become a mess a good example is when Roshi was duking it out with Genos.

Nah, he didn't learn how to do it. He just manipulated/deflected the energy toward Vegeta. That's why he had to wait for Roshi to cast it. Still, it's impressive that he was able to pull it off after only seeing it done 1 or 2 times.
