All these bad reviews makes me very scared for the next mass effect :snoop: :snoop: :snoop:
After the disaster called andromeda I can’t take another mass effect L
I haven't played other Dragon Age games but Veilguard does feel kinda Andromeda-ish in some ways. The next Mass Effect is gonna live or die on whoever is in charge of writing the whole thing :lupe: I think BioWare has action RPG gameplay downpat but that can only carry you so much.

The comparisons come from they diverge from the story of the first three games while making very little references to them

As someone that doesn't know much of anything about Dragon Age, the comp comes from BioWare putting all their efforts on gameplay and just going through the motions with everything else.

There's a lot of "go to this place, interact with random object, go back to this other place, tell this person something, quest over" type of stuff that was already outdated 7 years ago when Horizon Zero Dawn was doing it (and I fukking loved HZD) :pachaha:

A lot of fluff in terms of companion quests and like I've been saying, too much character work that feels lazy or just on the surface level stuff.

And I'm one of the few people that was OK with Andromeda, mostly because I'ma complete sucker for Mass Effect games. I'm probably gonna enjoy the next one too no matter how bland it is :mjlol:

Just has my one technical hiccup in the game. In the deep crypt at the final stage after you get Emmerich, the frame rate dropped to below 30 and my GPU temperature was spiking to 75. It never gets pasted 68. Had to lower the resolution quickly cause I aint know wtf was about to happen.

The writing comes off too modern. like the characters could be in an coffee shop in 2015 having the same conversations and it wouldn't seem out of the place. I think thats why people are trashing it. I mean they are throwing around jargon that didn't even exist until Gen Z invented it.

But the voice acting is pretty good in spite of that, imo. There are some scenes particularly with the necromancer guy in your party where i was like, man this is head and shoulders above the kind of acting i'm used to seeing in a video game.

But yeah having characters use terms like non-binary, cringe, or basic to describe things feels odd in the fantasy world supposed to be a long time ago where i would expect people to be on some "thou art""foul naive" type shyt.

also people weren't worried about being misgendered back in the horse and carriage eras, they were worried about being lynched or burned at the stake as a witches for not conforming to gender and societal norms. I doubted they went around correcting peoples pronoun usage. be like slaves getting mad at the slave owner for calling them negroes instead of african american. They were more concerned about being whipped and raped back then than proper labels
The thing about fiction is it doesn't have to be historically accurate. It can have whatever language the creators envision. Motherfukkers are running around using magic and fighting demons and dragons and people want to criticize the way they talk to each other.

if you're running around fighting demons then act like it

"so my gods are evil :skip: i guess that's a thing now"
"when you do magic, do you do magic or do you do magic? asking for a friend :troll:"

"these traps meant to kill you were actually meant to be helpful at one point - like tie your shoes and things like that"

and anyone who's played can go on with more modernisms that detract straight from what's in front of you - much that has a founded lore explanation too.

what are we actually defending here for real. because at this point some of yal are posting like you get paid to run interference lol

I haven't played enough of the game to have strong opinions one way or another, but maybe we've just reached the point where you gotta accept that some people just like shyt that you don't, and this is one of those things. Because I promise this isn't as serious as you're taking it. :mjlol:

This game lacks personality. For what it's worth I think the combat is solid, art style doesn't bother me IMO, but it just feels like a stripped-down barebones action RPG. I wanted a more linear approach like the other games as Inquisiton had too much fluff for my liking, but this entry is completely on the rails. Mass Effect 2 was linear, but it still had pizazz with its setting on the Normandy + some of the worlds you visited (Omega, Illium, Citadel return, etc). I'm still early into it, but the dialogue sequences/choices are streamlined as well. Playing as the Rook is just :yeshrug: in comparison to the Warden, Hawke, and maybe the Inquisitor (especially the Warden). The lack of tactical play doesn't bother me as much as some others for what Bioware is going for, but I think it would add a little bit of another element to the game :manny: . Just Dragon Age in name really

I'm not defending anything I'm just saying a story teller can tell their story the way they want. You're the one coming with expectations on the way things have to be.

Every story doesn't have to meet a uniform standard to be in a specific setting because ultimately all of this is just a work of fiction anyway.

you can tell the story however you want and it can be still be bad

this the shyt im talking about. can't even argue the point of a game disregarding its own language to strong arm shallow modern terms outside of "its just fiction" lol

'uniform standard' but how about the standard of its own world. even if you're new to dragon age the shyt don't add up.

"dragons are cool. anyone who disagrees is weird" :dead: they are flying WMDs wtf and kill/relocate entire villages. this might be the only bioware game that actively contradicts itself within the same conversation without realizing it.
