Dre net worth Today: $550million (net "worth" also factoring in things like how much he'd get for SELLING his company... As it doesn't base it off how much he has in the bank, but how much his companies are worth IF SOLD)
That's about $400 million net worth from beats alone. (with bout $50 of that being money already earned in the bank)
In 2011 Beats was worth $600 million *as a whole*, dre got $100million for selling 50% of the company as a whole (16.665% of his stake) . Now if he sells the WHOLE company (seeing as Carlyne owns 50% after paying $500million in 2013.. They basically bought HTC's stock at a higher price)... He will net $500million before taxes if it's sold for $3.20billion (Company is worth 5x more than it was in 2011... $600mil vs $3.2 .. 5x $100mil = $500mil)
His Net worth RIGHT NOW even if he didn't own beats: $200 million (kendrick, Eminem brought in a few checks since the $125mil in 2011.. and then $50 mil earnings from beats..)

That's actually what this is about. Apple is making a play for the digital music market. They are going to start an instant streaming service soon, if they haven't already. Dre would definitely have been competition, so they bought them out.
Apple didn't get where they are being dumb. Their only competition will be Spotify, but the apple brand will put them ahead of everyone else.
