Ya buggin chronic 2001 is a straight classic. And yes the chronic was a classic too. I just think ya suffer from too much nostalgia. 2001 had a biiig ground breaking impact when it dropped. And that kurupt verse was needed. Why u think people are still questioning Detox?

nah. the nostalgia is in the idea that 2001 was a classic. proppin up what was mereley a good album from your childhood or teen years, and then calling it a classic 15 years later. THATS NOSTALGIA my friend.

what impact?

it was more of a great comeback moment for dre, like somebody said. outside of that, it was more of an mtv commercial jumpoff. the rap world in general was already kinda pass what dre was offering. it was more about ruff ryders, cash money, no limit, rocafella, etc during that time.

sure dre 2001 had the media in its back-pocket and did big numbers, but that cultural impact wasnt there.

i know so ock.

homie already broke it down to you.

we messed with the singles, a few other songs, and like half the instrumentals. the rest of that was for the burbs and the west coast.
Yo u have your opinion that's all good. And I have mine.

not even trying to come at your neck, but its coming off as if your opinion seems to be based soley on personal preference & personal memories.

you gotta have some real perspective when you start throwing the classic label around.

i think the difference is that your opinion seems to be based soley on personal preference & personal memories.
That's where most of our opinions come from. I personally feel like the album had a big impact when it dropped. And yes ruff ryders rocafella and cash money were poping to. I never said they weren't. I just think chronic 2001 was a big album for the west coast. And I'm from the east saying this. And yes they had interscope in their pocket but so did ruff ryders. And back then that was when lead singles pushed albums. And music videos had a purpose. Still DRE and Forgot about Dre was all over the place. I went to Virginia to visit my fam I played ruff ryders they wasnt feeling it to much. I played 2001 they were bumping it. That's just what I saw and everyone I knew at the time was going ape shyt over that album. So the machine helped push a classic. That's what they're suppose to do. I'm not into sales at all but it sold crazy and was critically acclaimed. If u don't agree then im cool with that too. We all have opinions.

:what:

ruff ryders was the chit in VA dog.

they keywords ur using are "personally" & "west coast". i already established all that jim.

interscope didnt push ruff ryders like they pushed aftermath. and interscope didnt even have dmx. ruff ryders didnt even need all that extra hype anyway. they had the streets.

What albums do u consider ground breaking classics from 98 up?

classic or do they have to be groundbreaking too?

You ain't into hittin _____, or hittin the switch

theres personal, local & regional classics, but im talking the certified ones:

dmx - its dark & hell is hot
jay-z - vol 2 hard knock life(arguable)
juvenile - 400 degreez
ruff ryders - ryde or die vol 1
hot boys - guerrilla warfare
ghostface - supreme clientele
jay-z - blueprint(arguable)
diplomats - diplomatic immunity
jay-z - black album(arguable)

theres a few others that come to mind, but i'll keep it there.

after that, you gotta go to the mixtape circuits for your certified classics.
