and i understand that but not everybody does.
Whats stopping them from learning about that?

If I was going to DR it would be a necessity for me to learn about the area and its customs lol.

i never said DR was free of white supremacy. what i said to u is that just because im a light skinned dominican does not mean i had any chance of making it in DR if my parents had stayed there anymore than my uncles who are all dark skinned. i would be in the same town working the same jobs as them.

but ill send an email to my little white cousins out there and tell them not to worry about their next meal because white supremacy is gonna come thru and save them any day now.

:camby:

Like i said in our initial exchange, you're full of shyt. Anyone can attest to the fact that you intimated in an earlier post that the treatment of black dominicans is no different than that of ligther whiter ones. :wtf: What an egregious statement. You're full of shyt and shouldn't be taken seriously.

You have Haitians ITT saying the same thing :dahell:

racism and colorism is explicit in America, where as other places feign like it doesn't exist :aicmon:
I agree.

I think between racism there are layers, like you ask some posters, all of DR is racist, discounting the scores of people
who would be in favor of more tempered relations with Haiti. Just what isn't understood is that her in America, at least for
African Americans, we can see with clarity a black vs white dynamic, as if it is that simple. Hang out with immigrants however
and they are very specific in who they don't like, will name a nationality and probably a laundry list of (possibly foolish) reasons
to justify it.

Xenophobia and National Ire can be construed as racism because they is how we see it, whereas some places simply don't
want to be bothered with another for one reason or another. DR VS Haiti goes back to numerous slights and atrocities, part of
which stems from racism. To say that is all, much less the biggest reason, would be us projecting how we think to how they feel
about their neighbors.

Folks need to think while they are throwing an umbrella over everybody, if war broke out, that "brotherly love" shyt would die
vs countrymen standing together. Sure there will be exceptions, but step over into another country and try to play nice with
people just because they look like you.

This labeling and colorism is a uniquely American issue. Sharing distant ancestry and some physical features doesn't mean
they will see you any different from a Serbian or Irishman. And it wouldn't be racist for them to do so. It is just how their culture functions.
This wasnt birthed out of Dominican multiracial culture. This was straight from America to the DR:

Whats stopping them from learning about that?

If I was going to DR it would be a necessity for me to lean about it.

i addressed that in another thread. my cousin is a college professor out there and this past summer i asked him about that. he told me its just a lack of education. the DR school system is very archaic in some subjects because of lack of time to teach and resources. DR is just now getting a full school day for the kids. before it used to be 8am to 1pm so that the kids could go home to eat because schools couldnt afford free lunch. this past year it just got kicked up to 8am to 4pm because they can afford to feed them now. but the problem now is the curriculum is so old and in some subjects, like history, the books are from the post-trujillo era so they contain almost nothing about our african heritage. we all know we are descendants of slaves, but if u ask a dominican to point to angola on a map and he isnt gonna know its even in africa. those kind of things are taught at high school or above and very few students actually make it that far, dark skinned or light skinned.

education has just recently been put higher on the list of priorities but the country is taking baby steps.

u guys are mostly americans or from countries with deep proud african cultures or afro-carib cultures but we just had a dictator like 60 years ago who was racist as fukk and then his successor who was a more subdued racist ran the country for another 20-30 years. while ya were having your civil rights movement and black power era and conscious time periods, dominicans were still walking barefoot to school.

my town just got indoor plumbing 10 years ago. 2005. let that sink in...

that same year we also got our first paved road.

most of DR is rural and poor as fukk. they dont give a shyt about black consciousness right now they just trying to make it to their next meal.

Tell me something. Why would I describe myself as African American rather than simply American?
Ask a black man who grew up in France or Sweden what he calls himself.

In America we add tags and try to seperate on the color level, whereas outside the US they do so based on
where you were born. Posting an example of them using an American trope of klan members doesn't suddenly
make it a huge issue.

Whats that about judging by the worst? How we see it and how they see it are entirely different. To pretend otherwise
would be to think very highly of yourself.

i say it again, if u poor in DR u aint shyt and u dont have no leg up on nobody else. most of the poor are black because of slavery and white supremacy yes, but there isnt any favoritism to poor light skinned dominicans. i would love to see proof of that.

AAs not being connected to this country has nothing to do with the pic I posted.

White racists are always an issue.

You get into all of these talks about nationalism when many countries have connections to racist whites all over.

They are connecting worldwide while many of us are here being their pawns. Its pathetic.

and u must have missed the post about the almost dominican president who got won the election but got kept out because of voter fraud. the man who is still a national hero. but nah ya conveniently skip over any facts that dont fit your agenda.

mind u this man was a poor orphan who became who he was because DOMINICANS adopted him and raised him.

but we hate black skinned people in DR :camby:

u got a point but i just wanna point out that DR voted in a black president a long ass time ago but there was voter fraud and corruption to keep him out. not only was he black, but his dad was haitian. til this day there are dominicans(like my pops) who would curse u the fukk out if u say a bad word about this man..
