Kenny got 3 maybe even 4 arguable classics
Nas has 1 definite and 1 or two arguables

Similar skillset with storytelling and all
Nas got him bar for bar
Kendrick got him on delivery and definitely on beats

:why: Kendrick's delivery and flow isn't touching Nas GTFOH. Maybe back in 98-2002 or so you could have said Was flow let him down but since Heaven he has perfected that bouncy flow and that was his only real let down flow wise

Kendricks career is short enough that he's never missed. Give him 20+ years in the game and he'll have a few duds too like anyone else.
I don't think him (or Cole) plans on sticking around long enough to have the type of album totals many 90s rappers have. Also I think Kendrick's placement is gonna be real subjective depending on the type of fan you are. I'd compare him moreso to non-rap artists in this regard. There are traditional jazz fans who look at Miles Davis and say his earlier albums including Kind Of Blue are seminal/classic, but they hate his electric period where he had undeniable classics (In A Silent Way, bytch's Brew). With Kendrick everyone agrees GKMC is a classic. Many including myself say TPAB is a classic (and his best album imo) but there are certainly fans who don't fukk with that shyt due to the production/jazz. Most people fukk with DAMN but it's status as a classic may be debated. And then there's Mr Morale which is pretty divisive too.

I think he has two surefire classic albums (GKMC, TPAB) and I think DAMN is a classic now too. In that Vol 2 or Graduation way of just being a massive album that elevated the artist, is full of hits etc. But also because it's prob gonna be the last rap album to go platinum off purely physical sales, which gives it an interesting historical context.

As bad as Nastrudamus was from Nas.

Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers was equally as bad. If not worse. Terrible album.

Illmatic, It Was Written, I Am…, Stillmatic all are vastly superior to any Kendrick Lamar album not named GKMC & Damn.
TPAB is better than DAMN

BUT

Illmatic and It Was Written are five mic albums

this a cop out, kendrick been releasing albums for 12 years, that's plenty of time to release duds. most of everyones faves from the 90's released a dud in their first 12 years

Kendrick - GKMC = 1
Nas - Illmatic, Stillmatic = 2

Section80 is 4.5 mics tho. Then again It Was Written and God's Son are 4.5 mics too so I dunno
