That is a double edged sword. I don't believe we can pull the plug on china if they invaded taiwan either because of the reliance. We honestly need them more than they need us. China would keep going even if we sanctioned them much like Russia or Iran do.
Keep in mind they have a country much like Russia where they are authoritarian and don't give a damn about voting citizens. Compare that to us where if we embargoed china or used real sanctions on them ; our elected politicians would feel pressure or be outright deposed ; whereas China can keep pushing forward cause they got that iron grip on their people like putin. Imagine a situation where Republicans outright side with Xi cause of pressure from the business community. So , Rather than appease their people as the economy stagnates , China will just revert to Mao-era tactics like making citizens disappear in reeducation camps so consequences are much less lax for them .
Furthermore, brics was formed specifically to decouple from america. So I don't think Brazil or India or Iran or Indonesia or Russia will stop trading with China just because big-daddy-white man in america told them to stop. I also don't think some of our more trade dependent allies like Germany would side with our sanctions either because Germany's industrial industry would collapse overnight if China cut them off so they would keep trading with China the same way they pay lip service and keep trading with Russia.
geopolitics and it's ramifications eludes a lot of people. let russia take control of all of ukraine the breadbasket of the world and watch them and OPEC+ hold the world hostage, food shortages to further russian policy goals. massive immigration waves to escape it. even higher food and energy prices everywhere else. if you care about food and oil prices, ukraine developing it's oil & gas fields even further will get the hundreds of billions from europe that russia use to get. ukraine ain't gonna play nicely with OPEC in that scenario either which would be great for gas prices.

the “now” is all that matters when it comes to the material backing of a war.
china has no military might without an economic base to buttress it. america isn’t as dependent on outside investment as she is, so a war wouldn’t exhaust our finances the way it would hers.
the world is much different than it was during wwii. the idea that china can conjure up a militarily capable challenge to america after she’s drained of our entrepreneurial investment is fantasy.

He invaded the Rhineland starting in 1936 which not only gave him resources, but position in his March across Europe. Much like Ukraine is the only year-round access to the Mediterranean and the broader Atlantic for much of their Navy. EVERY OTHER sea port freezes for part of the year. This whole war is a play not to just rebuild the USSR, but to reclaim the entire Russian Federation.
US tried to stay out of WW2 and just give supplies to allies; and there were calls NOT to even do that by many of the politicians of the day. Eventually a line was crossed and they had to cock block oil exports into Japan. Subsequently Japan attacked pearl harbor, and there we go.
We don't stop Russia from Ukraine, Russia doubles back, gets the sanctions lifted or reduced, they go after Moldova. This would be the 4th time in less than 20 years they done this shyt. China says fukk it, Russia is going after their old territory, we're going after Taiwan and later the Philippines. US says fukk Taiwan like that idiot Ramaswamy and numerous other Republicans have said. Eventually other countries stop fukking with the US. Japan and Korea strap up. Germany straps up. UK if they get their head out their ass straps up. Sweden, Finland and Poland are already READY to fukking go right now. Japan and SK are big sleepers when it comes to this war shyt, they are literally just waiting for the okay's from their governments to ramp up, they have decent military technology as it is.
It turns into one giant nuclear powder keg, that the US...for all of our bullshyt, had relative control over. We would've had a nuclear war back in the 60s with or without a Cuban Missile crisis if there was no US Marshall Plan.
Its a bitter pill to swallow, but giving aid to Ukraine is hopefully death by 1000 cuts to the current Russian regime and disincentivizes China from getting any goofy plans until Xi is replaced.
