It wont escalate to that on purpose. Are the Russians incompetent enough to accidentally drop a missile into Romania or Poland trying to hit a target in Ukraine?
Absolutely. Thats a legitimate fear.
But the fear of them taking over Ukraine and then growing the balls to attack NATO head up like 3 or 4 years after that is insane.
They'll keep gobbling up former Soviet States/Russian Empire provinces and thats about it cause even if they DID somehow blitz the Suwalki gap (the only weakpoint in NATO) and overrun the Baltics... NATO would see that coming a mile away and probably preemptively strike the shyt out of Russia. And the Baltics hate the Russians more than the Ukrainians do, they'd never hold those countries.
Kazakshtan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Uzbek, Tajik, Belarus, Georgia and Moldova though? Tough break fellas, too many ethnic Russians and sympathizers there, plus weak economies, weaker armies and no NATO/EU protection. America is not sending Marines to Baku or Yerevan if they didnt send them to Kiev.
Even with a revived, capitalist USSR they'll still be like top 6-8 economy AT BEST. China, India, Brazil etc will be the real heavy hitters. Sanctions are gonna be killing them for years.

i think it’s an overblown fear. megalomaniacal as he may be, putin is also a survivor, someone who knows his limits and shrewdly hedges his bets in a cautious manner.I care only because he won't stop after taking Ukraine so it'll just escalate to WW3
putin will not do anything to instigate a direct confrontation with the us. it would undermine the very reason he’s fighting to reclaim ukraine. a war with the us would end russia, his reign, and possibly civilization as we know it.
before it even reaches that point, the oligarchs and military would intervene. of that i am certain.
my only fear is the us overplaying its hand and doing something that poses an existential threat to russia. that is a legitimate concern, given the imperial arrogance of this country.
imo, the us is a far greater threat to world peace than russia.

I care that a fascistic former KGB authoritarian goon and thug like putin be completely defeated and humiliated, and that it serves as a warning to other autocrats and tyrants that you cant illegally invade a country for no justifiable reason on completely false grounds, that should never stand not in this day and age, this isn't the medieval time period where you have kings and queens, there is no excuse for putins actions

I cannot say seeing innocent folks getting killed by a power hungry a$$hole is something that makes me not upset. It's disgusting.
That being said I do understand why folks in South America and Africa do business with Putin. They were conquered by England , France, Spain, Portugal, etc and their riches stolen by those still reaping the benefits. In their eyes he's not the bad guy. Playing moral high horse ain't gonna work.
