I prefer the raw grittiness of Menace. Boyz N The Hood had better acting, i appreciated the message of the film and it's a classic but Menace was one of the first hood movies that actually really focused on the gangsters POV.

Menace almost felt like a documentary the chemistry on film form the cast was impeccable, they really seemed like they knew each other 10+ years.

I just copped boyz on blu over the weekend. I have menace on an old dvd. I haven't seen either in a minute but when i was younger I liked menace more. That might have changed now that I'm older idk

The way the film plays out. Especially the end, when Doughboy claps those bloods, it's just a more powerful scene than what menace offered. Menace was more a shock value film, it's very entertaining but it has turned into more of an unintentional comedy in many ways. Boyz is just deeper to me, explores the family more, furious trying to keep his son on the right path, his gentrification speech, the whole first and third act. The musical score. It's tone seperates it imo. When I was younger menace I always like a bit more though.

But that doesn't make it the better movie, only preachy like @karim said

yes it did. Boyz N Tha Hood is way too heavy handed :huhldup:. John Singleton, the king of "message" scenes

Ricky: "I'm thinking about going to the army" :ehh:
Tre: "THE BLACK MAN GOT NO BUSINESS BEING IN THE WHITE MAN'S ARMY"

:snoop::snoop:

*Tre and Ricky tell Furious about them just taking the SATs*
Furious for no damn reason other than being a smart dumb nikka says: You know the the SATs are culturally biased, right?! :mindblown:

:snoop::snoop::snoop::snoop::snoop::snoop::snoop::snoop:

Some of these black films, brehs :snoop:

Menace points to environment, Boyz in the hood points to family structure. Both movies are really good, but Menace almost seems like a refutation of Boyz and that almost makes it seem more realistic. Does anyone think things would have been different for Kane and O-Dog if they had Furious Styles in their lives? I don't

Matter of fact, why would Tre & Ricky hang with O-Dog, Monster & Dookie anyway?

Seriously bruh?:what: Y'all are sounding way too sensitive about social commentary. BITH & M2S keep black folks from ending up like these Raven Symone & Tyler the Creator type nikkas.

I agree with you...cats act like they only want to see negro buffoonery in anything. Anytime there is a message they want to throw tomatoes at the screen or radio...shyt is sad :beli:

i think he is referring to the randomness of furious's behavior in the scene, as if he knew it was time for him to educate the audience... rather than it playing out organically.

We need more fathers like furious, the perfect father would be furious mixed with a bit of Cliff Huxtable and James Evans.
