Why are you rewriting history to push narratives you've been wrong about for well over a decade now lol. Dre signed Kendrick. He wasn't compelled to do shyt...he was told about Kendrick from various people in LA (plus J Cole and Peter Rosenberg told him about Kendrick) and signed him. In terms of Kendrick's success before Section80...who cares? Who was really popping out the west at that time besides YG and Tyga? It was a bunch of dudes bubbling, including Kendrick. I remember because I was fukking with Pac Div, Casey Veggies, Problem, Dom Kennedy, Tyler/Odd Future, TDE and a bunch of others at the time. Q was popping too. Soul was popping. That entire period of the blog era was full of guys who were making dope music on the independent tip, weren't selling records, trying to get deals etc. So this idea that Kendrick didn't sell before GKMC so he was a nobody is false. Nobody was selling because they were independent artists lol.
Dre been running the same playbook for decades. The Dre cosign and "protege" label has been a mainstream thing for a long time, from Snoop to Em to 50 to Game to Kendrick to Paak. Bringing this up while complaining about Doechii is a perfect example of people being mad when labels do what they're supposed to do. People so used to microwave music and no marketing budget that they get mad about rollouts and want to call it a plant. This is how it should look. Doechii been working the same project for months now. In an era where albums drop and one month later the artist is already previewing new music on IG. She's selling out shows. She has a couple big records. She's done some noteworthy features. And she will almost certainly be opening up on one of the biggest tours of 2025 (Kendrick/SZA). There's a clear blueprint here and it's Interscope has used for a long time (she's not on Interscope but she's UMG). It's why Kendrick opened up for Kanye. It's why Travis Scott opened up for Weeknd. This is how you build an artist organically and ensure they have an actual fanbase instead of just having attention.
I'm not gonna say she's a better rapper than xyz. As far as I'm concerned, Doja is the best rapper out of all the women. But the anger over Doechii is hilarious and tells me that some people love slop and get mad when something else gets praised for being thoughtful/well done. Same reason MCU fans get mad when the shytty movies like they are overlooked during awards season for smaller budget, better films.
