I have heard that saying as well.

Im wondering if their is a saying equally as popular that represents the good black men. :jbhmm:

What percentage of Black men would you say are "good Black men"?

Wrong question

The right question is how we could increase the amount of good black men.

Solutions above all else.

For that to happen good black men need more power and influence which can only happen once good black men get proper representation.

It doesn't imply any of that. All the topic of this thread does is encourage a dialog about an attitude towards black women that is prevalent in the black community. Theres nothing wrong with that.

Only focusing on one gender when everybody is going through it does indeed imply that. I am fine with the dialogue, it just needs to be expanded.

As a black man I can say we really have not treated our women very well as a collective. I think because we have been put through the ringer by systematic racism on top of that our culture albeit something of a forced matriarchy has strained our relationships with women. On the flip side though femism has done the reverse and marginalized even the more productive members of our people. So in essence neither side has really given the other side the benefit of the doubt especially the past 20 years.

Not to derail, but from what I've observed.
Generally with white couples there's is usually a distinction with who is the boss in the relationship but not always in a good way. The men are usually condescending and think women are stupid. They have no problem belittling their wives/girlfriends infront of people and making them feel like shyt. The women in those type of relationships are usually quite and unassuming you can tell that they are scared to talk back.
When it's the woman that's the boss it's basically the same thing, they make it look like the man don't know shyt and usually will blame them for whatever issue it is they have to deal with. I don't know how many times I've heard one say "I told his stupid as to get this not this" then they'll say some shyt like "I guess that's why they say if you want something done right you have to do it urself"
Sometimes the husband/boyfriend is right there off to the side like a petulant child.
Asian women are termagants. I can't really explain it, but I've seen a couple hit there men for making mistakes and shyt lol.
I can't say I've ever seen an Asian man get disrespectful to his woman.
Mexicans for the most part seem to get along. I've never really seen a interaction that came off as truly disrespectful.
Lots of Latinos here and they can be like the white people I mentioned above or the hood ones that act the ghetto fool like people like that tend to do. Cursing each other out, hitting, grabbing. I've even heard threats like "wait till we get home I'm a beat ur ass"
It's hard to describe all of them. I've been in a lot of situations that made me feel super uncomfortable. But some of that shyt is nothing compared to how disrespectful they can be to cs workers or retail employees in general. I've been called names even had an old lady try and fight me. And these instances are not one off.
Dysfunction is in us all. But nothing wrong with focusing on ur specific group.
I can say the difference is probably in how much we curse. It's just sounds harsher so it makes us look worse.

I'm not saying this topic doesn't exist, but I never see it as far as mature adults are concerned.

The women I talk to get plenty respect from black men...
The men I hang with respect black women...

I cant imagine any dude I chill with saying "nah i can't fukk wit her, she's black " or "don't listen to her, she's black what does she know :snoop:"

But as to OP's point about the upbringing of women in the community... he's right:francis:

And its not just in the AA community, in the African community daughters are... :manny::yeshrug:

My dad had 5 boys and 1 girl and everytime he's like "I was so close to getting it right :wow:" And my sister will be standing right there like... ":dwillhuh:"
I'm not going to go into family details and shyt, but basically my sister is more accomplished (career-wise and financially) than all my brothers and my dad still looks at her like "until you get married, you have accomplished nothing "

If my sister was a man, she would be the pride and joy of my father :blessed:. But since she's a woman... she's just this lazy, foolish girl who refuses to go find a husband :skip:

What is your definition of "proper representation"?

The amount of representation on the level of most rappers these days, most misogynists, most deadbeats, most playas these days, most Gs these days.

good representation doesn't = power first of all and secondly, rappers wield the kind of influence they have because white people have positioned them to with money and media.

Good representation increases your range of influence which is a form of power.

We as black people need to come together more and promote good black men, actually good black people in general.

We ourselves have power that goes ignored and unused because we lack unity and think we have no power like you are doing now.

Black men and women respect each other equally, only on the internet does a "problem" exist

Black people don't have the power to counter the negative perception attributed to us by whites. Black people love to say "if we just come together" completely dismissing all of the years that Black people have been doing just that.

It took me a while to adjust to hearing all the #HOH content on that album TBH.

Still 20+ years later, most of it wasn't necessary but it did start the "superthug /thug chaser" era :aicmon:
