Haven't read through the whole thread yet, but the way I see it if you can handle your living situation without employment then do what the fukk you want:yeshrug:
If your quitting jobs just because....only to then chill at your parents house and play xbox and watch netflix all day that's another story.

Personally, I'm now at a stage where I would be good without a job so I can dictate my terms now.
I'm never returning full time to the office ever again:birdman:

Really this.

Got two kids, the fukk I'm going to look like if my mini me's come to me talking about they hungry and I just shrug shoulders? What kinda fukking man am I if I'm not providing for them..? mortgages, groceries, car notes, clothing, power, gas. These wannabe Fidel Castro's don't have no real responsibilities so they don't give a damn.
Part of it is poor work ethic, the other is that they start off their careers so far behind that it’s been normalized for them to stay home with their parents into their 30’s (my sister is still at home with her 2 kids and husband at my parents house) while I’m renting out our first house after just buying my second. They are rejecting the old track of
Entry level dog shyt work, shytty car, shytty first apt
Promotion, new Honda Accord, mid tier condo
Marriage, house, Acura mdx, babies

it looks more like, stay at home with parents
Hold on to shytty first car till it dies then Uber everywhere
Brunch with avocado toasties!
Find mate and move to shytty apt
Work random jobs/gig work
Break up with mate and move back with parents
Rinse/repeat

People >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Employers

Gen Z are products of Gen X and Early Millennials

Both are two groups that mostly talk shyt but are scared to act on it.

The Z’s took that rebellious talking seriously and acted / are acting on it.

They are crippling their development and I am worried for them.

It is not as though they are far removed from a generation with a different pattern of behavior. There's what, 10 years separating Millennials from generation Z.

Effectively they are not needed. What will matter is how the next wave of new adults behave, which will probably change when they see the results of people in their 30s to 40s who thoughtside hustles would be enough.

Really this.

This is a bit of a what came first, the chicken or egg type situation.

Inflation in salary had not matched the inflation in the cost of living. As a result, the younger generation cannot afford to buy homes and are putting off having children.

You cannot blame them for not taking on more responsibilities than they can handle. If employers want things to change, they should start paying their employees a salary that encourages long term planning.

I lead teams of about 100 people and we've been having a huge problem with hiring new and junior talent since the pandemic. People switch jobs very quickly. What I'm noticing for the new generation, those that are fresh and recent college grads, is that their attitude is totally different. They will quit in a heartbeat without even exploring options which may work out better for them. They sometimes don't even give 2 weeks notice which fukks it up for the rest of the team. They severely lack professional etiquette like emails and meetings. Some people don't even attend meetings because they have lunch or whatever. Some people talk to clients like their own friends. A lot of them severely lack basic math skills. A lot of them complain about having to work more than 3 hours a day. I think the pandemic played a big role in this especially with work from home.

It's also a candidate market so lots of companies just throwing money. Eventually things will normalize once people understand you just can't leave a place after 6 months and think you're going to advance your career.
If you go WFH I’ll apply

I don't think 98% of the country is broke like you claim. No you didn't mention 98%, but you post like it is.

According to coli everybody is broke and struggling pay check to pay check:comeon:

Let's put it this way.. i am in government.. i see my subordinates and what they are paid. the starting rate for them is better than the average job and they still aren't paid what you believe they are paid..

And that's not even the south/midwest where people are paid far less. Yes they also have cheaper housing but still

If you are in a position to quit, then quit. Why would anyone blame Gen Z for doing this or anybody else that has this luxury?

If you have kids, bills, or any other financial responsibility, what does that have to do with Gen Z quitting? You should be happy that the younger generation are in the position to do things you were never able to do.

You should be happy that they are making the workplace better by doing this, and that employers are now taking responsibility for their flaws. If I have a kid, imma make sure that they are in a position where they can quit any job where they are treated like shyt. I will also teach them to speak up first about the flaws to HR, and evaluate their decisions. Either way I'm gonna support whatever is their decision.

We really at a major inflection point. I'm sure there's some lazy nikkas in their bunch but there's also a spirit of flat out rejecting the current status quo.

Gen Z sees what's going on with needing to pile up almost 6 figures worth of debt just to get a degree only to get some job that barely allows them to live with the current high cost of living. They saying fukk all that noise

You’re the same nikka who complains about street nikkas and thot culture yet you encourage Gen Z’ers to be unemployed. Are we supposed to believe there’s tons of 20 year olds making a lot of money “creating their own income streams” most of these folks are living at home and doing odd jobs, scams, or thotting for dough while the few lucky ones become real content creators and get paid. It’s not sustainable
Posting like this, implies that the former, working shyt jobs that can’t even pay for housing, was sustainable too. It isn’t. :yeshrug:

Older people grew up earlier in generally more favourable conditions, with COL being much more bearable. A lot also had union or union-type benefits. There was a pension, healthcare, upward mobility and the ability to support a family with a rudimentary or basic job.

Kids have seen upper management pay skyrocket while all their benefits are eroded, their worker rights are eroded and pay is flat at best. Of course they’ve had enough.

Nobody is up and quitting good jobs with good conditions out of nowhere unless they’re regarded or have much better options. If an employee is genuinely treated well and with respect, my experience is that they’ll behave the same way back most times.
Truth

How is this so hard for people to understand? :mindblown:

But no let’s just keep shaking our fist at the sky and calling Gen Z “lazy” :francis:

Millennials becoming just like the boomers that shat on us for yours :mjlol:

The world is alot different now than it was in 2009. Back then if you lost your job, you were completely assed out until you found another one. Today if you lose your job, you can drive Uber or Lyft, do DoorDash or UberEats. You can deliver for Shipt, Amazon and other similar apps. Amazon warehouse jobs are another safety valve seeing that they hire anyone and everyone on the spot. Tons of temp jobs and contract positions always hiring. Tons of remote jobs always hiring. All of these options can put money in someone's hands immediately so it lessens the sting of leaving or quitting a job until you can find your next full-time position.
What types of jobs are you talking about them leaving though. Cause the shortsighted thinking is that money wise the paycheck might look the job. But if they are leaving a solid position while the paycheck might change they will be missing out on some of the other benefits like 401K matching, health insurance, paid vacation and the like. Not to mention they are hurting their long term prospects if they job hop too much as the better positions won't want to fukk with someone who bounces between jobs. Add on that they will be entering every position as entry level and they will never get the chance to move up and improve their salary prospects long term.

For myself I started as software support and grinded my way up to having managerial experience in multiple areas and eventually to being a product manager which pays way better. I agree with them that if the company is truly treating employees like shyt then definitely bounce. But at the same time they need realistic expectations of the workplace is. I know when I was hiring new employees many came in thinking the company should cater to them and hand them positions before they decided to work hard if they ever did. I came in with the mindset of grinding and proving my worth then making demands since they knew they couldn't lose me.
