I've been up on African history literally since I was pre-k. Any and all accomplished made by Africans have been eclipsed by the Slave Trade/European colonialism. Europeans made sure of it while the Middle East co-pted what was left. Read "The Soul of Black Folks" to get an idea of our slavery has changed we think/behave as (at the time anyway) as a people.


The Slave Trade drastically altered our destiny the likes of which is rarely seen in Human history. There are a handful populations that have ever experienced such a migration and destruction of their cultures as Blacks have. There are even fewer that have had such an impact on Modern culture. Im talking about from Haiti's independence starting a wave of slave abolition to Christianity/Black Hebrew Israelites and Black unity to America's Civil Rights movement to . Im mostly referring to African-Americans.

on a side note its funny you mention Sertima, my mom hated him when she went to college. called him racist but i think it was because he was the only person in her life to give her a C

if 12% of american population is a small set of 1,000,000,000 + folk...which part is it? which part of slavery is part of the main culture?

I'll pass. Foxx is dope. Tarantino's a great director. I know it'll be a good film technically. But we cant have a black hero/revenge film without a white daddy figure to come in and assist, mentor, carry the black character. It's subtle. If Tarantino wanted to do a real slave revolt story, do Denmark Vessey or Nat Turner. He wont and other directors wont. There's a lot of white guilt, so to make it more palatable to audiences and to cope with their guilt, they add in these "mythical" white saviors. It eases their ability to come to grips with the bs they did, but at our expense. Let us tell OUR story. You'll NEVER see Bill Duke or Spike do a Holocaust film. A white director was gonna do Malcolm X right before Spike took over. Why do you think Danny Glover is having a hard time to do Toussaint L'Ouverture'? Because they dont want the truth showcased. We get this bs instead.

Movies about Gaspar Yanga, Toussaint L'Ouverture, etc should be made...and purchased by centric, tv1, bet, if its a TV movies...and then promoted...globally, thru diverse investors...

Tarantino isn't trying to tell the story of black American slavery, though. His m.o. has always been stylized surreal, violence-filled, black-humored, modernist absurdist fiction. He's never tried to promote any particular ideology like Oliver Stone or illustrate a vision of history like Spike Lee. His movies are basically well...pulp fiction. You just take them for what they are, and you don't take them too seriously.
