Of course you guys are, it makes you uncomfortable when Blacks bring it up and complain. Yall rather sweep it up the rug with "get over it", "move on", "stop being so sensitive" or some other variation of "lets ignore it for harmony's sake".

I don't get uncomfortable. I've never owned a slave. I don't appreciate you lumping me stereotypically into a group based on my skin color friend :smugobama:

White people aren't the only ones who engaged in slavery. It was common and accepted back in the day.

To be fair they're not the only ones to do that. In Japan, World War II is pretty much ignored not even taught in schools and there's denial from the Japanese side that atrocities like the Rape of Nanking didn't really happen or they just ignore it and are like when the Chinese bring it up.

It's the instinct for everybody. Nobody wants to feel guilty or judged, so they sweep it under the rug or try to sugar coat it. A sad cycle.

Don't forget the Indians.... i mean native Americans.

I think people NOW have a hard time talking about it because they are so far removed from it. How are you going to approach someone about something their great great great great grand daddy did. Who ironically enough could most likely be traced back to you genealogically at this point.

Who do you blame? White people are not a monolithic group anymore than blacks, anymore than Hispanics so WHO do you speak at exactly and who do you direct your ire towards?

That's the point i've been making with this whole "past thing". Considering the increase in inter-racial offspring a good chunk of black people have a white massa grand dad somewhere back on their tree to.

Maybe the discussion needs to be framed differently? (*i don't have any suggestions yet just thinking out loud).
