Sources: EPISODE VII will continue the story of Luke Skywalker and his Family Saga after the Death of Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker) and the fall of the Empire.

They are not going to be able to stop leaks but they are saying Disney and Lucas has been secretly developing the movie for the last year. Which is why they are firm on the 2015 release date.
I just want to know who the hell is going to be directing it! :damn:

All the "sources" have said its an original story. They are throwing the EU in the bushes :birdman:

I'm ok with that. You cant just make an episode 7 and copy and paste the thrawn story into a film. Its gotta be bigger than that.

That's a given considering the original cast looks like they're slowly transforming into Ewoks.

I still think they should leave all that skywalker shyt alone and do films based in the Old Republic era. They're dead set on whoring out the original stuff though, so there's nothing that can be done about it.

they have to give general audiences something to connect to... you should've seen this coming

It's Star Wars....

All the general Audience needs to connect to that is a fukking lightsaber.

It's no different from Star Trek. You can make a successful Star Trek film or TV series and not have a single character from the original show. People are still able to connect because of certain core concepts.

The Old Republic does not need to immediately be made into movies; that's what the games are for

and honestly why would we want to see that on the big screen when all roads from those storylines lead to the same outcome?

Lucas probably should have started the sequels with the Old Republic or the 3rd prequel should have been the 1st one, then move forward up through "A New Hope"....i don't know

and yeah...3 days later and i'm still :ohlawd: over this news. can't wait!

This is where you are wrong. Star Wars isn't like Star Trek or Bond, there different types of series. The Star Wars Episodes deal with the Skywalker Family Period. That's what people love, that's what people want to see. The Old Republic has no real linkage to the Skywalker Family. If you poll most Star Wars fans, a majority will all say they want to see Luke again more than The Old Republic. So that will not draw the audiences in. Sure it's Star Wars so it will be still be a hit but no way it would be bigger than Bringing Luke Skywalker back to the Big Screen. Also Alec Guinness was Old and most fans love him. The original cast Being Old won't matter cause everyone wants to see them again especially Luke. Also it's obivious there will be a young cast which will most likely be Skywalker and Leia and Han's kids. So again that's your linkage to the Skywalker family.

So can any of u star wars nerds who read all the books that took place after Return of the Jedi give us any hints as to what we can expect next?

Basically after Return of the Jedi the galaxy is in peace. Han and Leia go off and have Children, same as Luke. Luke ends up becoming a Jedi Master and starting the "The New Jedi Order". And there are new enemies that he battles. If you want to understand EU. Go to "Wookiepedia", it's an amazing Star Wars Website that has the entire history of all the characters and story lines.

This movie will break every box office record. This is the most popular movie franchise in US history. They need to get the right director for this.

I said this at the beginning of the Thread and everyone thought I was playing. "Star Wars" it not just a movie for people. It's a Way of Life. Harry Potter is big, Lord of the Rings is Big, Bond is Big. Shoot even Pirates, Twilight and Transformers are all Big franchise. Star Wars is the GODFATHER, THE KING. No franchise has sold more movie tickets than Star Wars. When "Episode III" dropped, it had a 100 Million OW. Think about that? Star Wars came out in 77, Episode III in 05. So 28 years after the 1st came came out, a New Star Wars movie did 100 Million. The fanbase is too large at this point. You have people my age that have kids now. Look at all these kids dressed as Jedi for Halloween the other day. It's a cultural phenomena. "Episode VII" is going to do Avatar numbers cause it will be in 3D.

Everything you just said could have also been applied to Star Trek before The Next generation debuted.

The original series was hugely successful in syndication and they made four movies before The Next generation debuted.

The Star Trek TV series and films were as much about the original crew of the Enterprise as The Star Wars series was about the Skywalker family.

The Public would accept Star Wars films without the Skywalkers just like they accepted Star Trek TV series and films without the original crew of the Enterprise.

Like I said it's the concepts that matter most.

depends on how good the movie is :pachaha:

before this week there seemed like no chance of a new star wars movie any time soon, and if there was you know Lucas would be all over it. Now he can sit back and just throw out creative story ideas (which is his strong point)and leave the writing and directing to others. There's a chance now that there will be a very good Star Wars movie here in 2 years, free from the fanboy complaints about Lucas' prequels. Fans cant blame Lucas this time if the movie sucks.

If its terrible? :yeshrug: I never expected them to make 7-9 anyways.

I assumed the next Star Wars movie would be the inevitable remake in 15-20 years

I agree with this but if you are gonna call it Episode 7 you need to have a connecting Skywalker character for at least the first movie. If they are just gonna make standalone Star Wars movies (not "numbered") not centering on any Skywalker family members then yes I think audiences wont care and will go anyways cause its a huge universe full of interesting shyt to see.

Yeah, I agree with this.

The problem with Episode 7 is that they're either gonna have to recast the roles (which isn't going to go over well) or minimize the role the original cast plays in the film.

Mark Hamil would be down but he looks like shyt.

The Less said about Carrie Fisher the better.....

Harrison Ford is questionable. He comes across like he hates Star Wars.

Considering all those things they can't do the Thrawn Trilogy since it takes place 5 or so years after Return of the Jedi.

It's probably gonna be Luke in the Obi-Wan role with one of them Twilight douche bags in the lead role. :aicmon:

Yep I can see Luke having an Obi Wan size role in the first one, and maybe Han and Leia in 2-3 scenes but no action. I gotta see the Falcon flying around again tho :gladbron:

And are they gonna keep Boba Fett in the bushes? :birdman:

I could see them borrowing a few small characters, planets, or ideas from the EU too.

Imagine a recast of the main 3 plus Lando? :ohhh: That shyt would be interesting, but doubt they can get a worthy Han Solo
