Yep I can see Luke having an Obi Wan size role in the first one, and maybe Han and Leia in 2-3 scenes but no action. I gotta see the Falcon flying around again tho :gladbron:

And are they gonna keep Boba Fett in the bushes? :birdman:

I could see them borrowing a few small characters, planets, or ideas from the EU too.

Imagine a recast of the main 3 plus Lando? :ohhh: That shyt would be interesting, but doubt they can get a worthy Han Solo

Everything you just said could have also been applied to Star Trek before The Next generation debuted.

The original series was hugely successful in syndication and they made four movies before The Next generation debuted.

The Star Trek TV series and films were as much about the original crew of the Enterprise as The Star Wars series was about the Skywalker family.

The Public would accept Star Wars films without the Skywalkers just like they accepted Star Trek TV series and films without the original crew of the Enterprise.

Like I said it's the concepts that matter most.

No I agree with you that the name "Star Wars" is big enough to do side stories without skywalker but if you look at the "Star Trek" movies. I think 11 of 16 feature the Original Star Trek Cast from the 1st show. Cause they could not sell the movies without them. Then there are like 5 movies with the Generation Cast and even 1 of those movies had Kirk in it. Also the new reboot "Star Trek" movie had Spock in it from the original cast.

So when you are dealing with the movies, it's important to include what people are familiar with. In the Prequels, Yoda, C3PO and R2D2 were all there. Obi-Won even though he was younger, was there. Luke's mother and Father were there. So again when you are dealing with the Star Wars Episodes, A Skywalker, wither young or old will have to be there in some capacity. In no way am I saying there can't be an Old Republic movie. But right now I don't think they could sell it. They have to go with the Skywalker family to bring in the fanbase to the numbers they want.

Also they will not recast Luke, Han and Leia, the fanbase would Riot. As long as they are breathing, they will play their original roles.

There's never been a large scale lightsaber battle between the 2 sides in any of the films. I always wanted to see that :manny:

The first four Star Trek films were made and released before The Next Generation aired a single episode. The fifth film was in development as the first season of The Next generation was airing. So it wasn't a case of them not being able to sell movies with the new cast since the new Cast hadn't even been established.

Star Trek VI and Generations was a farewell and transition to the Next Generation cast taking over.

As for the reboot, that's mostly due to a trend in the industry than anything else. What haven't they been trying to reboot lately?

I'm not denying the popularity of the original cast, but when you have a property that spans decades/generations and is as well fleshed out and developed as Star Trek (or Star Wars for that matter) you can get away with replacing the original cast.

All the usually happens is that you end up with multiple generations of people who have their own personal favorite cast.

Epi 7 introduce the Solo Twins/Tenel Ka/Thrawn story
Epi 8 Jacen Solo's turn/Lumiya story
Epi 9 Jania/Ben Skywalker beats Jacen

As much as i would love to see the Yuuzhan Vong it would be too complex and crazy to do..
