Dionne Warwick not convinced that Beyonce is a classic or iconic artist with a classic catalogue

Icons make songs everyone can relate to, feel or sing. You naturally feel great songs. Doesn't matter who the singer is if the song is classic.

This man gets it.

The artists with good catalogues got songs that transcend genres/demographics.

Dionne Warwick sang this 52 years ago, and it was a hit...

It was even a hit for others who covered it...

Even in the modern era...

^That is a Standard. Beyoncé don't make records like that -
or at the very least, she doesn't release them as singles.

This is not possible anymore without breaking the bank. So please believe if Bey let people have at it with her music there would be tons of covers. Same goes Alicia, Rhianna etc...

Her legacy and impact is left to women, I don't know too many straight men who will openly say her songs resonate with them. Vocalists like Alicia Meyers, Anita Baker, Minnie Riperton, Phyllis Human, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Roberta Flack, etc..sung with not only heart but on topics that reached between the sexes without that bird rhetoric injected in it.

What bird rhetoric is interjected in any of the songs I listed I can agree on the disconnect between genders but don't just say shyt to be saying shyt

Even beyonce's good songs are more because of their production and songwriters rather than her. She's an iconic pop artist/performer, but a songstress she is not (imo)

Her most soulful undisputed no argument track was that sean paul shyt and her dude kept on hating. Gtfoh, he ruined her opportunities to make solid great melodic shyt and great collabos. Them usher joints was weak.

her best track is baby boy?

and you question other's taste in music

I like the track but songs like dangerously in love, all night, I care are just as soulful ...the vocals>>>the lyrics>>>

Nah...don't dikkride and hide the truth. U one of them flashlight broads... gtfoh her solo shyt is still weak. Defend the bullshyt till the world ends, it's still banana peels. Keep on slipping.

lol @ you of all ppl questioning my sincerity

you believe her music is mostly weak, cool... plenty of ppl incluiding critic disagree

you aren't the gatekeeper as to what's weak or not...

she's not a good singer is what you're saying?

you may not like her tone...but objectively speaking a lot of vocal coaches say she's one of the best, if not thy best of her generation

take 'love on top', for ex, she changes key 6 times bruh...she sings the chorus four times in a row not for the sake of being repetitive ...she is changing keys each time.... i was even more impressed once I seen keke wyatt struggle to make a cover while in the studio

and you know you can sing when you do anita baker's sweet love justice

then there's this

keke wyatt love on top - Bing video

She's a good technical singer, and her voice does touch something in me, but it's not that deep, in your bones feeling like I've gotten with other singers, Keke Wyatt included. I think her being groomed at such a young age might be something to it. Maybe because most others others have past struggles that they draw from perhaps?

I’m not taking anything away from Dionne. She’s a legend. But she has no where near the amount of classics that her peers did. She made music for the pop charts which is why when the R&B greats are listed she’s barely mentioned. And some of her most popular songs were remade by other artists who were better

I’m no Beyonce fan but she’s been running the game for 20 years. She might lack competition now but she didn’t at one point and she outlasted all of them

Dionne's peers were some of the greatest musical talents that ever lived. Even so, her classics still made just as big an impact as many of her peers' hits did. She was indeed an icon in her prime. And yes, her music was more pop than r&b(she was a pop artist), so you shouldn't judge her by r&b standards or lists; her music reached people of multiple genres.

Beyoncé's competition has never been anywhere near Dionne's. You'd be hard pressed to find a single all-time great musical talent Beyoncé had to compete against.
