Nah its a valid straightforward question. If you dont have an answer other than "its perfect" thats fine.
Better Villians, better ending, better script. Both movies are far fetched but I would go with Part 3 being much more ludicrous. If a bomb exploded on a train in NYC, there's no way the area would be empty regardless if a threat to schools was being made. Nor could Simon set up all them deals for Mcclane at the same time planning the gold heist. So it's just far more unrealistic when you break it down but vengeance does a good job of keeping the movie centered so you aren't thinking about those things as much.

Original Die Hard had the better formula and climax.

DHWAV is the epitome of a movie that ages like a fine wine. I loved the first 2 so much that when the 3rd came out and it broke the "guy stuck in a..." formula that it threw me off and I didn't love it right away. But now I think it's neck and neck with the first one.

I do think the first Die Hard is the best of the bunch, but if I had to watch a Die Hard movie, in 2019 I'm picking DHWAV. It's the most fun of all of them, Sam Jackson is perfect in it, McTiernan is great back at the helm. IMO one of the best buddy action flicks ever.

So basically I think 1 is a better movie overall but at this point I'd rather watch 3. During the holiday season I'd rather watch 1 though.

Live Free being PG13 was some bullshyt and when Willis was doing press junkets saying it lived up to the OG despite being PG13 was :hhh:

when they dropped the unrated, it rectified the movie a bit (but some of the dialogue changes were ass), but shyt was too over the top...how in the hell is the guy who's afraid of flying jumping offa F15s like nothing, or how he made a car magically inclined into a helicopter

and 5 is straight :trash:

Have no real faith in 6...death wish was basically die hard 6
:dwillhuh: They're doing a 6? Die Hard is one of my favorite franchises ever but honestly I still haven't watched 5 because if how bad I heard it was.

Call me stupid but :manny: I wasn't mad at Live Free. The unrated version is arguably better than 2 to me. I think of Live Free like a worse version of Vengeance. IMO the appeal of John McClane is that he's an everyday guy that gets stuck in these bad situations, and Live Free sort of jumped the shark by turning him into this invincible superhero that was jumping onto fighter jets and insane shyt like that. But I liked the dynamic between he and his daughter, and it was cliche but I liked how he was so out of touch with technology, and a few of the action scenes were solid, especially the shootout in the apartment at the beginning where he's taking cover behind the fridge.

In hindsight I like 2 less and less. It doesn't have much humor and is honestly a little bit mean spirited. The shootout at the annex is the best part of the movie by far and even then it kinda bit John Woo's last shootout in The Killer. Honestly I might prefer Live Free over 2, and I'm sure that's an unpopular option.

I read about it a while back, but don't know what stage it's at now...what I read before was it's supposedly an origin story but will still have Willis as present day McClane. The homie @MartyMcFly might have more info

yeah that was cool, and the technology stuff is nice continuity since it's been shown he's a dumbass when it came to tech. I thought the action in 4 overall was dope...I actually really like the apt shootout, car into the helicopter and the F15 scenes...it's just so over the top...almost transporter levels of fukkery

Last I heard, Disney is interested in the proposed die hard 6/prequel idea. Doesn’t mean it’ll happen but they’re interested

Bruce is done. Dude is totally uninterested in acting. You see Glass? Guy looked like he was just there so he didn't get fined. It's a damn shame. Prequel is the only way to go.

The conceit is it would be flashbacks. Present day John would work a case that has echoes of one of his very first cases. So you’d have him and a younger guy playing younger him.

Of course the idea of a die hard prequel shyts on the idea of the first movie

Yeah I agree. Should be scrapped all together.

Dude it’s film lol. It’s all preference. You can make an argument there’s objectively good storytelling but even that is preference and tradition.

There’s no mathematic equation for art and why something is better than the other. You make your argument as to why you believe what you believe and that’s that. Same with music or paintings or literature
Going by your general statments like GOAT I though you would go by some general criteria considering you never said anything about it being your personal favorite just in general.

I don’t always equate my personal favorite with the greatest of all time tho. Mortal kombat is one of my favorite movies of all time but I don’t think it’s the best movie of all time. Acting, writing, dialogue, direction are all things that go into making a dope work of art. I can look at mortal kombat and roll my eyes at some of the dialogue. And some of the acting. And even parts of the story that has some holes. Die hard doesn’t really have any of that
