A lot of people have a misguided outlook on what parental failure is. There was a thread on Yummy Sandifer yesterday I think. His parents failed him. If your parents didn't teach you how to drive, what stopped you from taking the initiative? If they didn't teach you how to cook, why didn't you take the initiative?
If your parents were verbally, physically, emotionally abusive to you, and you can't connect, or create positive relationships with people. Your parents failed you.
If your parents were alcoholics, drug addicts, not present or couldn't provide stability for you and you arguably raised yourself. Your parents failed you.
If your parents let you run the streets with the wrong crowd, throwing your life away unchecked...They failed you.
People out here thinking because your parents didn't hug you enough, tell you they loved you enough, or spent enough time with you, they failed you. I don't know about ya'll, but my folks were busy as hell trying to carve out a life for us, and didn't have time to make sure that every single one of my needs were met. But I never missed a meal. I always had a roof over my head, clothes on my back, and never felt unwanted. When you're growing up it can be confusing, but when you're an adult and you're busy adulting your perspective changes.
