The Rock seems to have gotten the message after "Fast Five". His next few movies are Action based. He's even headlining the G.I. Joe Sequel:

I think some of the blame has to go to THE MATRIX cause after that movie making Keanu an Action Star it seemed it was the end of the "Muscle" Action stars for the "Regular Guy" Action Stars.

Why blame Matrix? Didn't Die Hard start the "Regular guy" action shyt (no offense to that series at all btw)?

After Die Hard there have been a plethora of "Regular good guys stuck in a fukked up scenario with all odds stacked against him against gully ass fukk bad guys" that came after.

the action hero star has been dead since the 90s. you have to blame steve segal for that though.

Segal and Van Damme were my Ni@@as growing up. I don't know who I liked more though. Van Damme seemed cooler to me as a kid growing up but Segal seemed liked so invincible breaking legs and arms. This is why "Expendables 1 & 2" pissed me off. It should of been way better than they were. I get what Stallone was doing and I'm happy he tried to do it but the movies should of been better than they were.

Yes "Die Hard" did start the "Regular Guy" action Star. But The Matrix did change the game for action movies and hollywood is still copying it's style 13 years later. Bullet Time is a normal thing now in Action Movies.

The Chi (South Side)
man, when those two were making those shytty kids movies, it left the door wide open for jason statham to take over as the #1 action star out there.

I'm glad vin and the rock decided to come back to where their bread is buttered, but those kid and family movies they did were god awful.

btw so was kindergarten cop too.

and bruce willis, he still around too. but he's a versatile enough actor where he can pretty much do any genre of movie these days. but its good to see john mcclain back and that the new movie is rated R like it should be.

They are on the same boat because this is looking in hindsight. They both had promising careers in the action genre and both decided to make kiddie movies.

like someone else mentioned, Arnold has been a certified action star already. He had the conan movies, terminator, running man, commando, predator, etc. Him mixing in kiddie movies along with his action stuff was acceptable.

There were different factors in the 80's compared to today. USA had its ass whooped in Vietnam 10 years earlier and USA had to look tough for the next generation of kids coming up. Stallone, Arnold, Bruce, GI Joe cartoons, Red Dawn, Commando, Cobra, Top Gun and Rocky 3 and 4. All propaganda movies. Also, There wasn't a million channels like today plus the internet. Arnold and Stallone was bigger than life to kids like me. Today we know too much and it takes alot to impress us.
