Definitely overachieved. Going to the Finals 3 straight times out of the Western Conference is an accomplishment in itself. Could've possibly been a three-peat if Bynum was playing in '08 against Boston.

Regardless of how the media tried to spin it, the Lakers underachieved. They shouldn't have had to go 7 with the Nuggets and they should've made that OKC series longer than 5 games.

Bynum was hurt during all of the finals they played in

Pau Gasol was in the league for 7 years before teaming with kobe, during those 7 years he won zero playoff games and made one all star team. kobe made him look better than he was and people have gotten carried away with the pau praise.

i don't see how anyone could say that they under achieved

:comeon:

Kobe immediately after getting word of the Pau trade, texts him "You ready to win championships?"

Kobe's not dumb, there's no need for you to play as much

fukk out of here with this injury talk. If Garnett isn't out for the '09 playoffs it would have been Celtics/Lakers in the finals again and who knows what would have happened. A year later Boston took them to seven with a much worse team than the '08 squad.

2 is about right for them.

I hate that shoulda coulda woulda bullshyt. People bringing up Ariza being out is even worse because Ariza didn't really start balling as a Laker until early 09.

Overachieved and underachieved....overachieved to the point people expect them to be in the finals every year as if this is early 2000's lakers....underachieved becuzeverytime they lost its just bcuz they were inconsistent and didn't play up to their full potential....lakers really have never been beat by another team in a serious that I remember...they beat themselves everytime....what other team gets a new coach and not even a hall of fame or proven coach and is expected to win titles that same year?BUT we coulda won with paul or if we had Odom still

I don't think that anyone besides die hard Lakers fans expected the Lakers to win a title this year. They weren't favored to win that series with OKC and they wouldn't have been favorite against the Spurs.

If we're talking JUST about this year they weren't favored by most to win it all without a major trade. The Lakers had the worst bench in the entire league and no consistent perimeter scoring outside of Kobe.

When the bench was contributing and guys were knocking down wide open shots in the perimeter they looked like a dangerous team, the problem was that rarely happened.

That does absolutely nothing but speak to confindence and greatness of kobe...he gets a marginal allstar pf and immediately was convinced of impending title runs...as opposed to say a steve nash who has played the bulk of his career with pau-level or way better than pau pfs (prime amare and dirk) and never even sniffed the finals let alone won back to back

No Pau and Kobe goes down in history as only a great sidekick.

Nice try, lame.
