Same here, I remember he had Bill Clinton on the show and pressed him about the negative comments he made about Obama during his bid against Hillary. Baisden was definitely moving in the right direction and to top it off played dope music.

That's exactly how it went down. NWA was pushed to counter the impact of Public Enemy. Now NWA's first album had some social commentary in it but by their second album they was pretty much pushing poison but their music on a sonic level was dope so it got the masses.

I remember when Public Enemy had their songs played on Mainstream Movies
From 94 till like a few weeks ago, it was a pipe dream to have social commentary on your music and got heavy radio play. For the longest, people downplayed that shyt and called it "militant" and "lame" to scream black power on your songs.

Yeah they played it on the radio in Cincinnati. I remember hearing it quite a few times, but it wasn't in heavy rotation. Not surprisingly they edited out the part about his ancestors getting raped

I'm bumping this because

A) this is the only place this full article exists online now

B) I did follow up on this for myself bc at the time I made this post I was somewhat knee deep in ATL's music scene and got to know some people, I didn't find anything crazy or dark

but this is a theory that's not uncommon and it definitely makes people uncomfortable to talk about

not saying it's 100% spot on, but there are elements of truth to this theory, I know this for a fact. I can definitely see this becoming a documentary after all the players involved are dead and gone.
