I don't think it's that organized. I would say as a culture that north america is as passive as it's ever been. It's more comfortable to be distracted than actually look at what's wrong with society, the perception that socially conscious music won't sell. We already know how uncomfortable it makes delusional (most) white people.

conglomerates taking over radio stations has has obvious effects on the quality as well

Truthfully breh, I'm 32 years old and I've rarely listened to the radio in my entire life.

Besides, it's 2014. If I wanna hear something, I just listen to it on the internet :manny:

Whats a trip is the shyt they USED to play on the radio. Once upon a time bruh this was one of the HOTTEST songs/videos in AMERICA. Radio play aaaaaaaaaalllllllll day bruh. shyt was pushed so hard it was our class song, hoop team came out to it. Song was a rally cry that even had your moms n pops spittin the hook. Everybody was on the same page, shyt was beautiful. Personally I was lucky enough to come up in a time where variety on what was being played on radio was INSANE, no bullshyt.

I genuinely believe this is how it went down.

That's exactly how it went down. NWA was pushed to counter the impact of Public Enemy. Now NWA's first album had some social commentary in it but by their second album they was pretty much pushing poison but their music on a sonic level was dope so it got the masses.

I remember when Public Enemy had their songs played on Mainstream Movies :damn:

From 94 till like a few weeks ago, it was a pipe dream to have social commentary on your music and got heavy radio play. For the longest, people downplayed that shyt and called it "militant" and "lame" to scream black power on your songs.

Although much later , I thought it was suspect that Michael Baisden's show was taken off the air :sadcam:

they got that cat up outta there. He was too positive & he KEPT banging the drum on Trayvon Martin. Dude would not let it go...tons of black folks stayed listening to him too. He was getting political with his show as well, showing the ability to mobilize blacks folks into positive focused areas. Once he got Obama on his show for an interview, I knew it was a wrap for dude

You right, even in 9'1.....Ren even said it on Nikkaz4life..."I ain't with that black shyt...." But me personally, I've ALWAYS supported our pro black artists that's what I grew up on bruh......PE, KRS, X-Clan, Wise Intelligent, Kam, Paris, etc.....Thing is those cats are still fightin musically in the struggle STILL puttin out product in 2014.....I STILL fukk with the music. Even as a kid I never looked at those cats as "lame" or "out of style" even as the years passed, even adults as old as my pops fukked with the artists I just mentioned.

In 95 KMEL out in the Bay Area didn't give a fukk, they was playin this shyt on daytime radio promoting his new album at the time...Now THIS shyt had EVERYBODY :merchant::gladbron:

Man, people understand the power of music. Just that too many people call themselves "motivational speakers" until law enforcement comes in. Then they switch up like "Its only entertainment" :whoa:
