Did drafting poorly ruin the Golden State Warriors dynasty?

That’s revisionist history as a lot of teams wanted no part in trading up during that draft and GS wasn’t going to get equal value for the pick
:patrice:

This is cap, because the Bulls tried to move up.

The Warriors just fukked up. I remember this draft pretty well. Same day, the Klay news broke that he had another serious injury. They had all the reasons in the world to pivot off of Wiseman with the news that Klay would be out.

WCJ and #4 isn't just a good deal in hindsight it was a great deal in the moment for them. They got Wiseman and he couldn't even set screens... Wendell is a great screener and would have been a much better fit for them. They would have been able to take whomever at 4 and it wouldn't have been seen as a big reach compared to if they took them at 2 over Wiseman instead too.

WCJ as good as he is can’t stay healthy, so I don’t blame them for being hesitant in not wanting to do that deal.

That draft was chalked full of question marks including Ant and Melo, so I give GS a pass for that fukk up for that reason alone. Even Minny didn’t initially feel comfortable with the Ant pick and the first half of his rookie season proved them right until he figured it out and became what he is now.

If they had actually picked a great player (and there are quite a few great players from that draft) you wouldn't be saying that
It was only an issue cause the guy the took 2nd overall is not an NBA player
That's a brutal whiff
Teams have gotten away from getting proven vets as distressed assets and going with “analytics” on rookies that need a lot of development and time which don’t go well at the nba level. If it’s not a Wemby/Bron can’t miss prospect, flip the pick!

Steph Curry is the reason this team didn't get as many rings as they should have.

His passive aggressiveness as a leader was just the wrong energy to control Draymond.

U can't have a hothead that integral to the team's success who doesn't fear consequences from the "supposed" leader of said team :francis:

All time great team but they under achieved

They didn't draft that badly, or not any worse than 98% of franchises. You can't hit every pick.
Steph curry being too loyal to Dray and Klay ended their run.

Klay and Dray are washed and make 60 million between them.

You put Steph next to 2 dudes worth 30 million dollar contracts and this team is still a contender.
This is the real answer.

Imagine if they drafted Melo and Trey Murphy III instead of Wiseman and Kuminga/Moody :snoop:

It's a big reason, but a bigger reason is that the FO is incompetent across the board.

It's kind of unreasonable that we can't even build a decent team around Steph, Klay, and Dray because their scouting sucks and the team is in perpetual cap hell.

The hardest part is getting a generational superstar and a winning core, how the fukk did they fumble literally everything else?
They are the reason the team is in cap hell. When you are paying the much to 3 players it limits you and requires more from them. Klay had injuries and has aged like players used to rather than this forever young shyt we seeing out of nikkas. Dray has gone backwards for last 8 years offensively and been living off rep and bluster defensively in recent years. That aint a winning core anymore. You replaced Iggy with Wiggins which seemed like a good idea two years ago but now he's back to the guy Minny was willing to give away. Aint no rookies or vet minimum guys coming in a fixing that.

Its amazing people wanna focus on fringe players and young dudes rather than the big ass pachyderm in the middle of the room breaking shyt and spraying water all over. They picked undersized self check thats not even the defensive force anymore over one of the greatest players ever. How do we just gloss over that to belabor the LaMelo (who is out right now and missed most of last year btw) piece or whatever other woulda, coulda shoulda? You had an all time player that addresses your biggest need and you picked a role player, a top notch one but still a role player over him. I mean they did squeeze another chip out of it but I doubt KD makes them worse in 22. Certainly woulda helped last year. Suns doin better than GSW despite being injury riddled.

suns are also playing a 7 footer in nurkic
warriors are playing a 6'7 kevon looney who doesn't havea offensive game beyond 3 feet

Kerr played Draymond, Mark didn't
Kerr's offensive system unleashed them

But their loyalty to washed Klay and Draymond over KD was dumb

this is false, draymond was a second rounder and yet as a rookie he played in 79 games even when he averaged 3 points and shot 32% from t he floor

even in drafting curry, klay and green in between they drafted ekpe udoh, festus ezeli,

We could’ve had Kobe but we drafted that CAC Todd fukkin Fuller

Yes, they had a chance to get their version of Kawhi in either Lamelo or Franz Wagner and took Wisemen, Kuminga, and Moody instead.
