Did anyone have a better run in a year than Shawn Michaels in 1996?

They were on the verge of bankruptcy while he was champ so that makes no sense, the reason they didn't fold had more to do with Stone Cold & Bret Hart having one of the greatest feuds of all time.

if he wasn't there they would've been way closer to bankruptcy  he was the only reason people were checking in. Stone Cold woulda worked a great program with anyone, it's just the only face besides HBK was Bret :manny: business would've been back with or without Bret

Kurt Angle, 2000.

European Champion, Intercontinental Champion, King of the Ring, WWF Champion, ended the year dropping Austin, Rock, HHH, Taker (and Rikishi) inside Hell in a Cell.

Strictly in character, it's hard to find a better year than what the Olympic Hero put up in 2000.

goldberg in late 97-98 has to be the most impressive year of all time.

guy went from debuting to laying out hogan for the title in front 40,000 people... in under 8 months.

Fair. But to answer OP's question, there's at least two years better than HBK in 96.

He was the main reason people were checking out:mjlol:

:usure: so it wasn't because of the Godwins, no #2 babyface, gimmicks on gimmicks, mixed with the nWo being the hottest thing in wrestling. It was because of the all the 5* matches HBK was putting on? :beli:

I respect HBK tremendously and consider him one of the top 10 all-time greats, but for me, the greatest moment of his 1996 run was Sycho Sid powerbombing that nikka for the strap at Survivor Series in MSG :yeshrug:

HBK was the best draw of the mid 90's for WWF he drew higher ratings than Bret, Backuland, Diesel, and SID PPV buyrates and raw ratings all support this
:usure: Ratings it a record low for them during 96

And to be clear the lowest buyrate ever was the DX ppv

Yep this was my answer. Angle was on fire from the moment he stepped in

I actually like Angle in 01 more :manny: my first year getting into wrestling, but his babyface run was fukking gold and it's a shame they stopped it with the Alliance turn (I was sad as fukk :mjcry:) , he was super over and ofcourse was having great matches.

2000 another year i aint watch in full tho besides most PPVs :sadcam: network needs that one more than the others, I've seen all of 98 and 99 but 2000 the roster was just amazingly stacked

It seems you're suffering from revisionist history, HBK was having good matches but he was one of the worst drawing champions during the 90s. As far as runs you'd have to go with
Angle
Lesnar
Goldberg
Stone Cold
Rock
Foley
And some guy named Hulk Hogan.
