To be fair, people don’t give him enough credit for keeping The company afloat. The company took a big dip when Bret and Diesel were the top guys. Ratings weren’t the best but Shawn as champ was actually selling arenas and house shows out and that’s against Nitro getting hot. Now as a character, that wasn’t it. He was much better in 95 and 97.

This was after the fact, but I hate how at SS96 they had a 6’10” Sid use a camera on 6’0” HBK, then when Sid Powerbombed and pinned him, the commentary team immediately focused on a crawling-away HBK and concern for Jose Lothario. They moment should’ve been 100% about Sid.

What you typed about Shawn actually applied to Bret during the time period of the steroid trial. At the quarter mark of Shawn title run was the South Africa Raw where they turned to Russo. Big difference. There was no Bret Diesel Razor to steal his shine, it was 100% Shawn like he wanted it. If Shawn was a real draw, Vince would have offered him so much money that he wouldnt say no during Rock and Austin peak to run it back there.
