I read alot growing up but I never got into comics.

Nobody I knew growing up read them, and my local library didn't have any.

I watched alot of superhero shoes and movies tho.

I just started getting into comics over the last year or so.

Like we all grew up fukking with the characters in the 90s from cartoons, movies toys: Batman, X-Men, Superman, Spiderman etc
Up until I graduated college;

like you, I missed with Batman and X-Men

But, I survived off the hand-me-down comics my Dad had and I just read them over and over--it was like 8 of 'em

I don't know if it's the same as not growing up with comics, but, I had only bought this one Batman one til that point

NOW, I'm a full blown comic book reader

they had a lil rack of comics at the 7-11 i used to go to as a kid.. so whenever i went, i'd thumb through a book. that was really it though.

i didn't meet people who were into comics/manga until i got to college.. and i thought it was weird that grown dudes were into that shyt.

but i saw the light soon afterwards :obama:

still not big into it.. but i like the big collections that go through a story arc from start to finish :ehh:

My first exposure to comics was X-Men Vol. 2 #1 in 1991. I saw it at my local 7-11 when I was going to buy candy. It was the variant cover with Wolverine and Cyclops. I thought it looked cool so I bought it. I saw Batman in 1989 and The Flash tv series in 1990-1991 but I didn't know they were based on comic book characters. When the cartoons started debuting in the early 90's I started buying them every month with my allowance money. I didn't know anyone who actually read comics but everyone watched the cartoons, had the toys, played the video games, etc. As the 90's progressed and the prices started going up I couldn't really afford them so I cut back to just Uncanny X-Men and X-Men. By the time I was in my junior year of high school in 2000 I had stopped reading them and went on a near decade hiatus on anything comic related. It wasn't until Avengers came out in 2012 that I started getting into again but wasn't buying stuff monthly. Wasn't until really this year that I actually started buying stuff every month again.

Was big on the 90s cartoons but was never really into the comics. In fact, the comics I read on a somewhat consistent basis were foreign comics like Asteriks and Tintin. And even then, that was somewhat sporadic.

First American comic I remember for sure getting was a collected book of X-Men by Grant Morrison 9 years ago. Can't remember the title. It was cool, but once I was done with it, I sold it for some extra cash. Didn't dive into comic books or read any comic books after that. Just moved on real quick.

Around the final years of the SOHH days 5-6 years ago, some user mentions that he was a really big Black Panther fan. I was like "Black Panther? :dahell:" Then I learn that BP is black, African in particular, really rich and (at the time) married to Storm. Had me like :leon:.

Decided to give BP a shot. Loved it. Became a big BP fan ever since and started reading as many BP books / stories as possible. Through BP books, started learning more and more about comic book stuff the TV shows don't really touch on. I'm now much more knowledgeable about comics and the comic book readership because of it.

I rock with a few non-BP books here and there, but BP books or stories featuring BP and/or his supporting cast are what's keeping me into American mainstream books.

I started at 14 ('94)... Moms had a co-worker that worked a second part time job at the library... They were throwing out books & she kept the comics & gave em to Moms to give to me... Had to finish the story & been collecting ever since....

funny.. in 90-94 when I was in college ... we had the lounge watching batman, tiny toons, animaniacs and etc like it was nothing..
College and growing up didn't diminish more comic reading ... it actually diminished my wrestling watching but comics stayed.. I guess because it reading and reading is fundamental..

My daughters school I remember had one teacher who allowed them to read graphic novels and TPB for their assignments.

I used to love that 70s spider man.. love when he was on electric company, loved wonder woman, incredible hulk, ... funny I don't remember the flash but I do remember automan

Our generation has more of an affinity towards Pokemon, Wrestling, and DBZ than physical comic books. With that said, I watched every comic book based cartoon I could find growing up.

This.

I was more of your Saturday morning cartoons, video games, ''Take ya azz outside and go play''
type kid growing up, I was never into comic books and never knew anyone who collected them. ,
