Like we all grew up fukking with the characters in the 90s from cartoons, movies toys: Batman, X-Men, Superman, Spiderman etc
But was anyone else just not around actual comic books as a kid? I didn't own any and I didn't know a single kid that collected them in my neighborhood or at school. Every once in a while somebody might have ONE, but I didn't know anyone with a collection or who followed them. Or if I did, they didn't talk about em much.
The public library had a bunch and I used to look thru them and be more confused than anything. Like "this isn't the Wolverine from TV, where's Morph". Video games were a much bigger deal when I was growing up...
And this isn't a cac/black or hood/suburb thing either, cuz I'm pretty sure a higher percentage of black people are comic book readers compared to white (per population). I feel like its an age thing. Comic books were bigger for 70s babies than 80s babies.
Thats the biggest surprise about this comic book movie craze to me. Just how many diehard comic book heads were out there like Ta-Nehisi Coates, Combat Jack, Method Man etc. That wasn't a thing for me growing up. We had sports video games and hip hop...
I saw more Pogs than comic books as a yute
