You can easily only watch the first 5 seasons of Dexter and not missed a thing.

Still one of my favorite shows, but seasons 6, 7, & 8 should have only been 1 season.

Breaking Bad was a great story from start to finish. ... dexter was more contained to a different story for each season, like you could tell you knew the show runners had a plan when they started with bb... not so much with dexter. In bb the writing was smarter, the acting better, the way it was shot was better, the cold opens, character development. ... in fact I can't think of anything really that dexter did better. And I was a huge dexter fan til the last couple seasons. The only thing dexter had going for it was that it was on a premium channel.

The first four seasons of Dexter are as good as anything I've seen on television. Season four and that ending was so fukking good. :wow:

The ending of season five ruined the show for me and I actually stopped watching after that because I knew it was headed down a bullshyt path. I still haven't watched the last three seasons because I want to remember how great that show was at its peak.

Breaking Bad will be remembered as the better show because it never fell off and everything in the story was properly wrapped up. Now if AMC had forced them to milk the series like Showtime did with Dexter? Maybe it would have turned into a mess too. Luckily, we'll never know.

If I were to rewatch the whole series I go 1-4, episode 1 of season 5, all of 6 and the first episode of 7and would probably be okay with stopping there. It's sad. 7 and 8 had a lot of good moments but not enough to justify being the end game.

fukk everything about season 5 but the first episode. :stopitslime:

fukk that Aryan group too while I'm at it. Having them come in, essentially as the main villains to wrap up after Gus took away from the last season a bit. The last 5 episodes of the season were great TV, but after all the time with Gus, it was like Dexter killing Miguel in the penultimate episode and beating the Skinner with one arm in the finale. Just underwhelming.

I respect the thought you put into this thread but these shows aren't even comparable.

How? Both starred true anti-heroes with dark drives, secrets that resulted in the deaths of innocents. Hell, they both pretty much ended in a cabin wearing flannel in the middle of nowhere at the end of their run. Nagging wives that pressed the them, familys at stake if their secret were brought to life, new borns to complicate things. Debra and Pinkman were manipulated throughout, the DEA brother in-law is everything Doakes should have been to the series. The shows have plenty of parallels. Don't let Dexter going downward the final few seasons trick you into thinking they're nothing alike. In theme and characters there are plenty of similarities and I'd take the first 4 of Dexter over BB any day.

I should have been more concise. The shows themselves are comparable from a plot perspective. I meant they're not comparable in terms of quality.

man.. the first few seasons of dexter were incredible.. it brought something new to the table, a serial killer who kills in the name of good? the writing was really fukking good the first few seasons too. Breaking Bad easily wins this by consistency. BB is consistently A+ while Dexter really got shytty at points.

The last few seasons in mind? Sure. Thefirst Dexter 4 versus the BB 5, though? Absolutely are comparable.

Aside from season 8, Dexter was better and more entertaining than Breaking Bad.

Breaking Bad was a good show, but it's to the point now where people who haven't even seen the show will hype it up because it is fashionable to do so. It's the cool thing to say that Breaking Bad is GOAT.

Like I said good show, but ridiculously overrated.

No, its been a couple years. Its now the cool thing to say Breaking Bad is overrated.

In reality, BB is a top 5 show ever. Dexter is maybe top 40.

"Dexter" was doomed after season 4 because the show runner left. They changed show runners a couple times after that, which is why the show was a mess.

This is a good comparison but everything "Dexter" did "Breaking Bad" did better. Or hell, not even better....just right in general.

Skyler found out about Walt in the first episode of season 3....the whole world found out by the end of the series. Deb found out about Dexter in season 6....and the world at large never finds out.

That alone is enough to sink "Dexter". shyt man....I remember the threads back on SOHH, it was a foregone conclusion that Dexter would get caught. It was never "if", it was just discussing the circumstances. "Breaking Bad" was far from realistic but the plot gymnastics "Dexter" had to pull just to keep him from getting caught were :snoop:

If a character found out about Dexter you knew they were either dying, or being written off the show. I know cats like to sit there like :beli: "I never felt Walt/Jesse/whatever was in any danger"....bullshyt. I was in the threads, people were sitting there every week :lupe: "who is gonna die, will he get caught?" People need to cut the bullshyt out. It didn't end long enough ago that you can rewrite history.

To put it into perspective the best episode of "BB" is "Ozymandias", and the show ended 2 episodes later. The best episode of "Dexter" is probably something from season 4, take your pick....then the show went on for 4 more seasons. I don't understand saying "well, 'Dexter' at it's best is better than 'Breaking Bad'" when "Dexter" had a solid 3, maybe even 4 seasons where it wasn't as good as the initial 4.
