I never said he specifically asked for max. I said the talk was thst he could command max, on this board, others and it was a few articles that suggested it. Many were using what igudola got as a measuring stick for what deng could command 14.5-15 mill and then it was many reports of the Lakers and dallas being willing to give it to him.
He hits the open market and got 10 mill. If jimmy is not a huge part of us winning the title and we go home before the finals I can see the same narrative with him happening.
Kawhi is a finals mvp who just gave it to lebron on a national stage, he can command 15 mill. Klay is a 2 way player who is a elite all star quality offensive weapon. He can command 15 mill
Jimmy is not on they level. And it would be silly for us to treat him as such without him earning it.

Keeping Jimmy is just gonna cost more than any us thought and more than any of would like.His agent is obviously gassing him if he rejected 11 mil a year.I don't agree with butler getting paid equal or more than steph curry,derozan,kemba walker but this new tv deal will get role players broke off.
If the bulls let jimmy walk next summer they are taking a step back and won't have a chance to win the east.There's no replacements period if he shows this year he's can be a more efficient 2 way player he's gonna get paid.

Iggy is a bit older since 15-17m is a max deal for Butler, which is what Iggy received. So, Max is relative to that. Butler could definitely get a "max" deal, just to pull him away from the Bulls or make it harder for Bulls salary situation.
But forget about that, Butler isn't just a defensive player and I probably misspoke saying he could get a max deal on defense alone. He can get a max deal with where his offense looks to be going and his current status as one of the top perimeter defenders.

There was no realistic talk of him getting a max
not sure who said that on this board - When free agency hit with the Miami the sources all had him asking for ~12m (which he ended up at $10m - ironically enough).but let's not argue about that, because it's pointless - Kawhi may get $15m because of him hitting/entering his prime and the fact that he's shown glimpses of stardom. Someone may take a risk on him , but that is a risk - he's the 4th option on the defending champions. So, I highly doubt any playoff team is going to give him that kind of money next year (depending on the CBA as well). So he may get max'd out by one of these teams that can't attract star players in free agency and the same could be said of Jimmy Butler (again depending on his performance this year).

If Jimmy can give us more offense then he's well worth the money but we don't know if these 20 point games this year are fluke or not. He can't end up like Deng where he gives us struggle scoring nights but can't get us any when we need them.
