But is it wise to release anything in theatres right now
he and all thee others might nit win.. if the deal with WB is for distribution and theaters then they are doing that.
the problem is its on HBO MAX for free.... if they did a premier access like disney it would be cool
Not technically for FREE, you pay for the subscription. And Disney's SOUL isn't a premier access and it's premiering on Disney + and not into theaters.
But they made the consumer happy. Everybody I know excited about this BIGLY.Warner Bros. has managed to piss everyone off in the last week. Directors, actors/actresses, producers, executives, studios, theater owners, and Stan, the guy who sells popcorn at the concession stands.
I know... but what can he do about it now??? Sue them for breach of contract???
It's not just about that. what most of these people are mad at, and some cats still don't understand for some reason, is the way Warners handled it. You can't blindside your partners in anything. Not in your family, not in kickball on the playground, and definitely not when millions of dollars are on the line for their bank accounts.
He and a lot of other actors and talent just wanted the same courtesy Warners showed Gal and Patty Jenkins. It's not about "next time" when the company obviously told talent one thing and did another. That's just bad business regardless of whatever side you're on
I came in to say what else could they do. Even if theaters open next year, they are going to have a reduced window to show films because there are a slew of films that will be overlapping each other and as such, reduced box office receipts for all but the biggest of blockbusters.. But you're right, good business is giving your partners the heads up that we're doing this.
Denzel must also have points on the backend as well.
EVERYONE complaining has points on the backend. shyt ain't a coincidence.
My thing is what do you want them to do? Hold the movie until 2/3 years down the line? If there's a chance to recoup and profit using this Theater/HBOMax model then you do it since full theater capacity ain't happening until 2022 at best. Just renegotiate your backend points kicker with AT&T. If they say no, then don't fukk with them.
Read my statement, I agree...Warner was going to lose money even if the films could be released exclusively to theaters because we are going to have an accordion effect when theaters open back up. Nothing is going to make what it was initially projected to make because multiple films are going to overlap each other. Warner is fukking people's money up in the millions, to protect their money in the billions. It's the type of thing that could collapse their studio.
My callout is, Warner should've had the courtesy to notify people. To maintain relationships when you have to make tough decisions you communicate and offer conciliations. It's a boss move, because as much as the industry is complaining...who really isn't going to do work with Warner/AT&T in the future? fukk outta here, it ain't happening.
