Partners is still a word for creative. definitely how they look at it and how their agents look at it. can't make movies without them unless we're going to program AI bots

That’s pushing it. Partners put up money and take part in the risk should the venture fail. These actors are getting paid up front (i.e. taking no risk) and getting paid on the back end if the film is successful (i.e. taking no risk). If the film lost hundreds of millions, these actors wouldn’t want to be “partners” then. I think Legendary Studios has a real case as they invested in Dune and Warner made a decision unilaterally without consulting them. Warner will probably just pay them off. These actors have no case though :heh: The backend compensation is a bonus that only happens AFTER a movie has become profitable meaning the movie needs to make at least 2x its budget. That wasn’t happening with Covid and theaters at 25% occupancy. They’re putting in on the streaming app and based on views and new subscriptions they’ll give out some back end comp to the actors which is better than the zero they would’ve got had it came out in theaters and flopped.

Like I said though Dave felt he was getting burned with his shows being on streaming, he came to AT&T and they talked behind closed doors and they agreed to drop the show. They didn't have to do that but they did it to maintain their relationship with him and the CFO said he wasn't going to address anything that was said, it's between them.

That is how you handle business.

That's how Dave handled it tho. I think the Warners handled this across the board was wrong and in my mind, we're not battling on the same playing field anymore once you breach that initial trust. if you tell me we're doing one thing only to make a show of you doing another thing, complete with interviews in the press to frame it and lie to everyone telling them you have filmmakers on board, then it's fukk you at that point and im going to do what I do.

They didn't do Dave like that so to me, that's apple and oranges

So based on what you're saying, if they tell the actors and directors one thing, which at least two of them are on record saying, and then do something else, without telling them, shyt is cool?

I'm not sure case what they could, would, or wouldn't have. I'm spitballing. Someone else mentioned litigation and I took a guess. My main issue is the breach of trust and fukking over people you work with. Doesn't matter to me what ATT's bottomline is from that point on. If they tell them they're doing X only to do some other shyt, that's fukked up.

And to me, anyone contributing in the creative process is a partner. Whatever movie Warners funded with Denzel attached doesn't make the money or even get greenlit and get investors lined up if he isn't attached. He brings value to the project. He's the reason they're able to count their stacks. That makes him a partner in my eyes

You saw how that worked for Disney. Mulan flopped. Nobody is paying $30 for anything..

nobody wanted to see mulan and they didnt announce other movies.. if they said mulan, soul, black widow and what ever then it wouldve worked..
wasnt nobody checking for mulan..

WB announced the entire 2021 slate.. they will be at least 2 films everybody would want to see

Once again, coli does the "nobody was doing X" shyt :russ:

I got friends with kids who wanted to see Mulan. But they refused to pay extra on top of what they were already paying. it had nothing to do with Mulan for them and everything to do with principle. Disney announced that sideways.

i mean my kids wanted to see it too.. but not at 29.99 without any movies attached.. if i was single and wanted to see mulan by myself 29.99 is to much $$ when a ticket is 15.. thats why without adding more movies out the gate and saying we will see... it was not gonna work

Yeah see for me, and people I talked to, it was just the principle of a billion dollar company asking for 30 on top of the annual or monthly fee. you already getting me don't try to get me again on the other end. it felt like a hustle

I think it takes a special movie to charge $30 extra breh... I just don't see most movies being that popular where a studio can recoup just off extra streaming sales.

These actors and directors don't seem to realize that most of their movies ain't doin shyt in theaters right now. TENET was one of the most highly anticipated films of the year and it did Den of Thieves numbers :manny:

and here HBO doesnt do that and people are still upset.. different types of people but still..

so who should AT&T please ... the 50 million users or the 15 investors, 15 directors and 50 A list actors

thats a rhetorical question... no real response needed

true but HBO MAX is already $15 whereas Disney+ was $7 (now $8) so it makes sense that HBO MAX is gonna be free of charge... they had a dumb roll out where everyone didn't know what the hell it is and the subs numbers were bad

but now people are catching on and they charge Netflix prices so for every sub they get it's double the revenue of what D+ would get, D+ probably thought people would be willing to pay more because the service is cheap

Were these type of clauses just not in contracts prior to COVID-19?

I would assume it caught a lot of people off guard with situations that are cropping up now that wasn't included or discussed prior.
