Democrats had two months with a 60-vote super-majority in theory, but in practice, they had to reckon with the downsides of being a "big tent" party. They had to contend with the Blue Dog coalition in the House and senators like Lieberman and Nelson in the Senate, who were ready to sink the entire bill to kill the public option. I don't know why we have to be dishonest about this.
That’s the entire point - they as a party are not on board with it. That’s literally the point. If a lot of people in my party support something and others don’t then it’s not going to be our platform. That’s literally the entire point. Dude made it seem like it’s their general principle when it’s on the back burner. And it’s not dishonest when it’s been verified that the Obama administration had confirmed to health insurance companies it would not be in there and it was only brought up for a potential vote because of progressive pressure - especially out of the house. (Those damn progressives trying to make America better again.) And then all the Dems got voted out anyway so they should’ve at least died on what the house originally wanted in a public option.

Guys like @King Static X (hate that he’s using that name) hate that sort of nuance because it doesn’t conform to their world view that Democrats are good guys who just have bad things happening to them. They are a party that is a a coalition of various groups that ultimately defer to their moneyed interests. No one argued about “why” - I simply said that as a party they failed to do so even when they had those many votes. Pointing out defectors is pointless when they passed it through reconciliation anyway using a slim majority.

The beef guys like @King Static X have is that he is a true blue believer in everything democrats so to critique them is to critique his favorite football team or superhero. I’ve defended Democrats when they’re right and cooked them when they’re wrong - and republicans are almost always wrong - some of you guys should be happy people like you won’t be the ones putting the Dems back together. Your autopsy would lead to a Republican supermajority.

You're right. Those early PhRMA negotiations played a huge role in shaping what we ended up with.

That's a lot of babble. Nobody is reading that nonsense :heh:
And here you are still @ and quoting me when despite “not caring.” All my friends working in politics are literally democrats at the state and federal level and I’m registered Dem.

Don’t waste my time again while I’m watching basketball. Stick to arguing with republicans.

OK, Mr. Babbler.
