Decline in rap quality is correlated to literacy. These rappers now don't read books, don't write, illiterate. No longer intense path b/w poetry to rap

At the end of the day a lot of people that consume rap whether black, white or whoever just don’t respect it like that.

It’s just something else to consume
It’s entertainment. It’s an after thought

You’re in a very small minority if you’re discussing music online

Vocabulary is one thing but actually knowing what they are saying is another, plenty of 90's rappers were spitting some high tense vocabulary without knowing the shyt they were saying LOL..analysing some of my old mix tapes and underground collection can be bit crazy and upsetting LOL
i dont know why this made me laugh but :laff:...:dead:

I say in about 20 years the ability/desire to read for leisure is gonna be a status symbol/class identifier

A lot of people are only gonna be able to read/comprehend work related material. And some will still need assistance with that (like now)

I been saying this. Say what you want about the so called elitism of early 90's new york hiphop, but that's the only region that championed actual mic skills and displaying some level of literacy in your rhymes.

Been downhill ever since nikkas started being afraid to call out all this remedial level shyt

I personally feel like it all went downhill when the culture shifted and started focusing on the region that spends the least on public education and has the lowest literacy rates in the country :hubie:

Reading books certainly does not lead to a good rapper or lyricist, but it cultivates the ability to sustain attention and imagine more than one's immediate reality. I do not expect an artist scrolling through Instagram while freestyling captions into a mic to tell a story or captivate a listener because they cannot focus on one thing at a time. Expediency replaced depth in artistry, and the consumer shares the blame. Another aspect that often goes overlooked involves the prevalence of processed food and a lack of hydration. The lack of a healthy lifestyle often correlates with a distorted and simplistic thought process. Artists nowadays sound the same because they think on the same low-level frequency.

Travis Scott demonstrates how one can be devoid of any brain activity but reach the height of selling out arena tours. If listeners are attracted to this content, what incentive do artists have to change their behavior or lifestyle? Clearly thought-provoking content in any medium nowadays does not receive attention because it requires going beyond the surface. I have a friend who printed out a two-page short story for a few of her colleagues to read and most threw it in the trash because it was too long. As AI becomes more commonplace in daily life, expect for this to get worse.

Ironic literacy is ancient when smartphones are glued to fools hand, while we physically turned pages to read:lupe::ehh:
What's bad about that though is that the phone will correct these fool's spelling and even correct their grammar, but they STILL can't write a coherent sentence. They will ignore the spell check like it's the one that's wrong...

Majority of rap these days is made for angry antisocial crash dummies who are nothing but a statistic. You'll rarely find a smart successful person listening to music about shooting another man, selling drugs, etc. It's not an uplifting music, it's made to drag you down just like emo music.
tons of successful Gen X grew up listening to goon rap.

what ya listening to make you feel that way?

we living in an era where it's so fukking easy to listen and discover new dope music, you don't have excuse to focus on the wack rappers.

you have Ka, Blu, Billy Woods, Navy Blu, Danny Brown, Mac-Hammy, Roc Marciano, Denzel Curry, Mavi, Boldy James, Lupe Fiasco, Earl Sweatshirt, Benny..just to name few

I need to find a NY Times article I read a few years ago which stated that each passing generation are using less and less words.

I have to find it.
it's scary to see on social media and texts now that grammar is being disregarded more and more.

you even see viral videos with the most basic grammatical errors on the screen and it's normal now.

Schooling people takes forever; don't bother
yeah, something about 'no child left behind' ironically remediated the entire public school system to lower standards to pass more students to the next teacher's problems instead of flunking them and giving them summer school:unimpressed: ...and before that, reaganomics cutting music class from inner city schools, so people are just relegated to sampling other people's work instead of making their own
