Decline in rap quality is correlated to literacy. These rappers now don't read books, don't write, illiterate. No longer intense path b/w poetry to rap

Now that you said it, they flooded music and movies with sub par material, saying that "you hating" if you properly criticize the lack of quality. Why did Tyler Perry throw shade against Spike Lee? Why are sex workers from the mid to late 00s suddenly getting props, with fake butts and titties on media stations?

You hating.

Csme from puff misappropriation.

Like I said.

Puff is rhe reason for this.

As before puff using grief from big. Hiphop culture actually was a vibrant constant. Maybe not mainstream but bboys and bgirls existed and had the new school way of thought to guide them. As well as the social and cultural protection mechanisms.
After puffs misappropriation. The culture of hiphop was severed.
from its last remaining profitable gateway in rap because of puff. Now here we are.

This is very simplistic and a out just so you can blame Southern rap for the declination of Hip Hop. There are great lyricists who have said some very stupid and dumb things in songs. It wasn't Southerner who said ".38 revolve like the sun around the earth" and didn't know that both humans and camels were mammals. Jay Z told you that so hopefully you wouldn't have to go through that.

:dead: :dead: :dead: fukking rep and facts

Weren’t all the old guys a bunch of dropouts in the streets just like the new guys?

Y’all are delusional. Theres nothing special about lyricism
I'm kind of here with it.

I think what the original post points out is a coincidence.

The controversial take is that high-level lyricism was mostly (keyword: mostly - not completely) driven by the sensibilities of the East Coast rappers and audience. For reasons the East Coast always prioritized that, regardless of the education levels or amount of books read by the rappers themselves.

But as the decades since the Southern takeover of Hip-Hop started in 2004, that sensibility drained away little by little. And now we're at the point where even alot of younger rappers from the Northeast aren't even very lyrical anymore, and people's literacy rates haven't changed much in that time.

The difference is the current youth take pride in not knowing older stuff, like a badge of honor. See: Lil Yachty.
I think they do this because they are aware that most of their artistic output pales in comparison to that of the past. It makes them too insecure to want to talk about it, so they refuse to listen to the music of the past in depth. This goes for R&B, too.

It’s a style choice and you have to cater to consumer’s taste

This is how 2chainz used to rap, now he raps super slow and fills in the gaps with adlibs. Jeezy is actually one of the most improved rappers and was pretty horrible in the beginning. Now that he's a decent rapper and can rhyme without adlibs he's lost his fan base.

Puff is exactly why we are.
where we are.

Krs enablin house ducks is also why hiphop will never re-establish itself culturally as well.

As krs has allowed disco house electronica ducks from bambaata to puff to flourish. While hiding his hands being complicit enablin. That which he supposedly is against.

The public school system plays a big part in that….

It doesn’t help that the parents aren’t crap either.

At one point, a lot of your favorite rappers weren’t afraid to be intelligent on records or outside the booth.

Nas

Jay-Z

A lot of rappers in this era are dabbling in the streets while being drugged out.

At one point in rap, it wasn’t cool to be a junkie.

Even 8Ball and MJG had a song on their 1995 album lambasting folks who do drugs recreationally.

Exceptions to the rule bud
How is that an exception.

Again, that was LIFE in the pre-internet world.

You had no choice but to read something.
That map is crazy. New York and California used to have the best schools. It seems like Michigan is the only place producing new rappers with intricate lyrics.
You know why.

No, you don't :heh:

You're exactly what's wrong with music.

REAL artists don't treat music like it's a fukkin' McDonald's hamburger or something and just "cater to consumer taste".

Hip-Hop would've sounded like Vanilla Ice a long time ago if nikkaz just "catered to the audience":dahell:
