The analytics hate R.J.’s game on both ends in fact they paint him as the biggest problem in our starting 5 :francis:

Looking in as a Knick hater, your problems are your 2 shytty defensive guards you have starting. Kemba is a mismatch every night and y’all should have kept Bullock over Fournier.

Trade Randle as soon as you can. This is the best he’s gonna be. Better off building up Toppin.
Same energy should be kept for Barrett and Julius idle off-ball defense/ball watching and Julius lazy close outs and rebound hunting

Like I’ve said Knicks need to start thinking of moving Randle by the time Obi’s rookie deal ends

Losing Obi would be such a Knicks move

Randle isn't the issue, nor is he the solution. The problem is that Randle should be at best a 2nd option, but the Knicks don't have high end talent nor the capacity to get it(this draft is mid, no great FA's this year, and lack assets to get a superstar).

He is an issue. His ball stopping, inconsistency, and his defense are all issues he plays for a statline and he has not been efficient down to a 52% TS, he can’t get buckets against set defenses in crunch time.

Throughout his career he’s always been best when maximized in usage whether with us or as a 6th Man bench anchor in New Orleans.

The Knicks should be looking to move on from Randle and hand the keys to Obi by the end of next season if not sooner.

Thats why I think this offseason was a clever punt. No one signed beyond next season except Randle but with team options to tack on one more year. They kept competitive while maintaining as much flexibility as they could and gave themselves the shot at upside if kemba’s health got back or a young player took a leap…but now obi might be the closest to a leap and he’s the one position fully road-blocked.

I don’t think Randle is the main issue since he’s the only one in the starting lineup who can create his own shot, create for others and command defensive attention (nobody else in the starting lineup can do this). The problem is our lanes are closed off and both Barrett and Randle need them open.

Every team keeps sending a second guard on the Randle double team and they continually leave the Rim protector for extra insurance (AD in Los Angeles is going through the same thing as well). It forces you to take those mid range shots because the post is taken away amd the second guard on the double team takes away the three.

Barrett is going through the same thing as well, every time he penetrates there comes somebody else waiting on him to block his path with a inside double team. This clogging of the lane is killing both of our star players.

Again the Knicks know this hence why they flirted with Obi at the 5, asked Noel can he shoot more threes and tried to trade for Myles Turner. For some reason they didn’t get anything accomplished in the off-season except losing our best perimeter defender in Reggie bullock who Tibs wanted to keep (Knicks will have hard time duplicating their stingy defense

They need to call New Orleans and see if Jonas valacunis (Stretch 5) is available or at least call Minnesota to see if Patrick Beverley (perimeter defender) can be had and at what price.

We still have Knox and two extra first round picks from Charlotte and Dallas available for trade

Edit: Off the bat nikka cappin too. Fournier, Kemba, and Barrett can all create for self and others to varying degrees and play types. Just keep it real Randle a black hole with his fake Melo bullshyt and insistence on chasing the 20/10/5 statline every night
