Brunson and Mitchell would have been no different when people were complaining about the Marbury years of guards killing us despite Starbury putting up over 20 and 8 assists per game. I never blame Dolan or Isiah for Marbury because he was who fans and the media were demanding for years.
This is a whole new era and an uptempo offensive one at that. The teams that participated in today’s trade started their last seasons with Conley/Mitchell and Garland/Sexton backcourts. It’s a position-less era where teams are breaking all types of conventions. If you have a good defensive coach and personnel and can mix and match lineups it’s a problem that can be covered. The Knicks could have at least said they had 48 minutes from statistically two of the leagues best rim protectors in Robinson and Hartenstein—and Brunson and Mitchell would have bolstered the Knicks offense significantly it would legit be a scary thing for opposing defenses to face guys with speed, quickness, strength, craftiness, range who can both play on and off the ball nightly.

And let’s say they did that. It leaves us with Mitchell and wait for it brehs….Randle.

Yeah fukk that shyt!

Yeah, that's the problem. It's not about overrating our young guys. It's about the inability to do shyt to improve the roster after. They'd have to get lucky with the protected picks that everyone says are trash. That would be the only way to add talent beyond minimum contracts until cap increases kick in.

The Melo situation again...that's what it'd be.

Okay, so the Knicks could have beaten the Cavs with RJ, IQ, one of Obi and Grimes, PLUS 3 unprotected picks.

So Ainge wanted RJ, IQ, and probably Grimes, plus 3 unprotected picks and two pick swaps… so let’s look at that roster. Let’s say they sent Rudy Gay back as rumored and the Knicks offloaded Obi because this deal makes no sense if they let Grimes go….

Brunson/Rose
Mitchell/Grimes
Reddish/Gay
Randle/Melo
Mitch/IHart

So the Knicks bench is old as fukk and the best defender Grimes is buried behind Mitchell. The Knicks are basically capped out and have to rely on other teams protected picks to improve.

Now let’s look at the KnickS if they sent out Grimes. Somehow it’s even worst

Brunson/Rose
Mitchell/McBride
Reddish/Gay
Randle/Obi
Mitch/IHart

And then you add those rosters to Thibs as a coach and he is playing those starters 40 minutes every night running them down and Ainge has control of the Knicks draft picks for 5 years.

:childplease: The FO would have had to be stupid to do that trade.

U live with that trade…

U add the extra pick and the swaps.

Barrett will never be as good as Mitchell.

I.Q. is expendable once you acquire Mitchell given we have Brunson and Rose as well.

The picks are the picks draft is a crapshoot most years and we never have success with it we are hoarding picks for a star anyway can’t be afraid when the times comes. The higher likelihood is that those picks become replacement level guys or fizzle outs than actual stars. These deals like Gobert and PG-13 have made this the going rate for star players you have to come up off picks.

U still keep Obi and Grimes and can still shake up the roster with more trades hopefully Jules and Fournier.

Reddish would benefit from this trade because his versatility on defense and three point shooting would be key next to Brunson and Mitchell. It would be a golden opportunity for him.

Woj:
New York had the assets package that Utah preferred and the sides seemed to be inching closer to a trade on Sunday night and into Monday, but New York balked on including Quentin Grimes into a trade with RJ Barrett to acquire Mitchell, sources said.

When guard Immanuel Quickley was proposed as a replacement for Grimes in the trade, Utah wanted three unprotected first-round draft picks as part of the package -- but New York would only do a third first-round pick that included Top 5 protections, sources said. Those packages would've included two second-round picks, two pick swaps and two expiring contracts from a third team, sources said. New York would've moved out Evan Fournier and first-round pick to a third team to spare Utah taking on Fournier's remaining $37 million, sources said.

That's RJ, Quickley, Fournier, four Unprotected first-round picks, 2 first-round swaps, and 2 second-rounders.

And the hold-up was on top five protections for one of the first-round picks.

yeH I’m not feeling that trade at all . The fact that it was close doesnt make me feel any better . The jazz saved us from ourselves. I guess Rose rarely isn’t trying to build around the youth
