They think they can rehabilitate him. Right now, they could probably find someone to give him away to but not with much compensation. A more successful season for the team next year would pump that compensation a bit. I'm just not sure whether the plan is to really pump his value and deal him or if they're still hoping they can win with him. I don't think he makes any sense in a line-up with Brunson, Mitchell, and RJ...not enough defense from 1-4 and the spacing is sketchy.

Im sure their hope is Randle and the rest of the picks we don’t give up to Utah nets us another star.

I don’t. This front office is way too smart to believe Randle is a 1B or even second option on a contender. Leon Rose didn’t become of the top agents in basketball by being an ok talent evaluator. I still think extending Randle was defensible in theory and if Randle doesn’t go completely off the rails last season we’d all agree.

Randle was always a bridge player to show the rest of the league what playing in NY can do for you, your wallet and your brand. I think players and agents do take into consideration when front offices reward players for having big seasons. Y’all don’t think seeing Randle in national commercials plays ANY part in Mitchell wanting to come here? Even if it’s 5% it was worth it.

Because it's all politics. He's not outright saying it to the media outlets but telling Jazz behind closed doors and coming to NY games, Mets, rangers, etc.., throwing subs. I lowkey feel like part of the highest paid/top players contracts is that they get to pick and choose where they go and that team has to try and honor it by any means at this point. Knicks know they have to give up too much and probably wanna hang up and put Jazz on do not disturb but there's some backdoor politics that says they have to get Mitchell even it they don't want. They also have to play Randle even if they don't want.
