Murray fits what they needed around Trae(plus defender, secondary ball hander, can score). There's logic behind why they brought him in.

I'd have less issue with Mitchell if they didn't just spend 100M on Brunson. At least at that point you can make the argument that you can try Mitchell at point and keep Barrett at the 2 and not be a completely horrible defensive team.
As much as I agree that it looks like an awkward fit, Mitchell and Brunson are what Thibs needs. He doesn’t have much in the bag to make offense easier for his guys. Mitchell and Brunson can create for themselves and for others, and having both means at least one is out there to help the youth and take defensive pressure off them.

On the other hand, Thibs’ teams have always overachieved defensively. His team defensive schemes are typically really good and his teams virtually always finish in the top half defensively. That’s not to be misconstrued like I’m saying he can make this work for sure. But if Leon Rose is placing his bet on Thibodeau as coach, then he needs to get Thibodeau offensive weapons that can thrive and hope Thibodeau has a solution for the defensive holes.

At minimum, this team would have league-recognized quality players. That’s hopefully a step toward respectability league-wide.

Despite the small backcourt the Knicks should still have at least an average to above average regular season defense under Thibs.

Also it’s not like Brunson and Mitchell are playing all 48 minutes together. They would be staggered.

What the Knicks will have is 48 minutes of rim protection with Robinson and Hartenstein.

Thibs isn’t a miracle maker…. He put Burks at pg because we was a better defender than Kemba. I don’t see how you think he is going to make a small backcourt work?

This is the same guy who lowkey had issues hiding Fournier and Randle and until this rumor started we were all pretty sure Grimes was going to take Fournier’s place.

U keep on trying to disrespect him, disrespect his skill, disrespect his impact.

It’s not gonna fly.
He’s small

He’s 6’1 and takes alot of shots

You brought up Murray on some disingenuous shyt and that situation is different..

Number 1 his contract is not as monstrous

Number 2 he‘s 6’4, can give you 20, can run the point and also be interchangeable and move over to the two and not be a defensive liability because he defends!

You think Thibs understands staggering?

He makes a lot of shots.

Dejounte is ball dominant as is Trae. Dejounte still can’t shoot threes and will be sagged off in the playoffs. See I can be negative too. :krs:

Because Hawks didn't trade 4 young prospects along with multiple first rounders.

And because Dejounte Murray is also not a 6'1, half-eaten lollipop dropped on a dirty carpet looking chucker who plays no defense :hubie:
They literally gave away 2 of their young wings.
