I don't think this is similar to Melo's situation.
The Knicks have the assets to make a big deal. They have a bunch of picks and a bunch of solid players. If there is any way to package Randle + two more players + 1-3 picks and get back a star, they should do the deal.
Plus the Knicks already have a bunch of young players they need to develop. They already struck gold in the draft with McBride, Grimes, and Sims, in addition to a couple cats on the summer league team who look good.
Knicks have the assets, they should use them. I'll usually take a proven player over a draft pick anyway, unless we're talking about an undeniable college talent.

MVP votes. And why are we acting like the Bulls are legit contenders? They’re not that much better than us… at best they’re 5th in the East and that’s pushing it with the Nets falling apart and the Hawks and Raptors on their heels.

In all fairness, if we can move Randle, we may be a playoff team. I wouldn't touch that Utah trade unless it includes at least him and as little picks as possible.
I don't like RJs extension and believe that, that could go to the other young guys.
