That’s good for you. But he was constantly being compared to the other stars in better situations like Jayson Tatum and pegged as an “empty stats” guy which is just as ridiculous as writing RJ off as an inefficient chucker. I’m not saying RJ will be on Bookers level by no means. But the parallels of upward trajectory in shyt franchises are there. I think RJs floor is a really good second banana. He’s already a very good playmaker, has really good feel for the game and has shown he can take over scoring duties when needed. Whether he’s a franchise, championship level 1a piece has yet to be determined but the tools are all there.

(Btw Knicks brehs, was just listening to KOC of the Ringer make this exact Booker comparison with CP of Knicksfan TV on his Mismatch podcast.)
Booker was already a clear capable first option tier three level scorer as early as his third season his game was clearly polished like that. The skill was there in fact he hasn't improved that much over the years but he has an excellent supporting cast and coaching now.

:what:

First of all...the fact that RJ looks for Herro so he can abuse him should tell you enough
No...despite Herro being mismatch hunted he had a better year than R.J. and has had a better career including some big play en route to Miami's bubble Finals run.

R.J. might not be mismatch hunted but he isn't a good defensive player. It's clear why Herro made the list over Barrett.

I honestly don't see the point in waiting. They should negotiate and if he won't come off the max then make your decision on what to do with him now. He's not gonna change his mind next year and if you don't believe in him now what does that mean when it comes to negotiations next year? His cap hold is gonna be significant regardless

I don’t see the value in rushing, especially after Randle’s regression. Move Randle and get an idea of how RJ looks leading the team. If his improvement is stagnant and the team is struggling; you can try to trade him at the deadline or see if his price comes down.

If he’s successful, then you re-evaluate his contract offer or you increase your trade asks.

I really think the Knicks should pay Jalen Smith the MLE and run with a big rotation of….

OBi/Jalen Smith
Sim/Noel/Jalen Smith

I’m ready to start pushing jalen smith as a FA target wherever I can get ears. I tried to fit into the KFTV end of season round table, but there wasn’t free agent talk.

The tools are all there? I think that’s where we’ll disagree. He has the tools to be a good player. The tools to be given the keys to your franchise? Ehhh…

I like it a lot for the Knicks.

Mitch is good but wants to get paid and Iris clear the FO is hesitant to do it. Why we don’t know. Sims isn’t as good as Mitch but he does fits that need. Jalen Smith as a Backup PF and Backup center for 3 year’s 8 million is really good value and I doubt other teams will bid more than that. Plus they can keep Noel in a contract year for Depth and try to bring up his trade value and act as a stop gap while both Sims and Smith get stronger.

Eventually a 3 big rotation with a vet or rook for injury protection purposes would be ideal

Obi/Jalen
Sims/Jalen

Imagine RJ in a 5 out offense :wow:

It’s risky but the Knicks took a step back playing it safe last season

100% co-sign to all of that. I’ve been worried Mitch will walk for a while now, and even with Mitch/Sims back; they could try to dump Noel and have smith as back-up 4 plus injury insurance. We know mitch takes his lumps. Just in terms of under-the-radar targets; I think Sims is a REALLY worthwhile option.

RJ doesn't play good defense now? :aicmon:

I'm taking RJ over Herro and definitely over Bane.
